Could you please tell me how to uninstall the AdGuard Home from Win 11? Thanks
@KLTechVideos
@KLTechVideos 2 ай бұрын
Hey thanks for watching! Certainly can. Depending on your setup and if you followed this video to the letter. > Open the windows menu and type cmd, right click open with admin. To open the command prompt with admin rights. > copy and paste the following commands without the quotes! > First make sure you have an alternative DNS setup. If you've pointed your router or computer ad Adguard restore the DNS settings or set them to something like google 8.8.8.8 or 8.8.4.4 then... >copy and paste into the command prompt "AdGuardHome -s stop" without quotes to stop the Adguard service. > Then run "AdGuardHome -s uninstall" to uninstall Adguard. > If needed delete Adguard directory where you saved Adguard to.

I have few questions, i did not remove it yet ofc: 1- does my pc have to be on 24/7 for it to block ads across my entire network? 2- why cannot i access the server from my iPhone, whether thro safari or a dedicated app for AdGuard Home? I really appreciate your help Thanks a lot

Yes your pc with Adguard must be on at all times if being used as the dns server otherwise dns will fail and internet access will fail too. You can access Adguard from your phone (When connected to your home network) if you type yourPCipaddress:82 (or whatever port you used for Adguard). So for me I go to 192.168.1.59:82 because thats the ip of my pc Adguard is installed on and 82 is the port number I have listed during setup for the gui/web interface. You can also connect over a vpn when outside the house. I'll do a video on VPN's one day its on my list.

Weird, my pc is off and i still have internet access, tho no ads are being blocked at the moment.

I cannot access my adguard home from phone still. I type my pc ip address with port (which is 53) in safari but it gives me white blank page or safari performes some search as if i typed words not an ip address. My ip address begins with 10 not 192 like the usual case, perhaps thats the problem, i dont know.

Nice video. Have you ever used or heard of Blokada? What ad blocker do you recommend for streaming devices?
@KLTechVideos
@KLTechVideos 3 ай бұрын
Hi thanks for watching. Never heard of blokada but will check it out. If you implement adguard at the router level like shown in my adguard video it should happily block ads on your streaming devices too. If you also use a VPN like wireguard to tunnel back home it can be used on all your devices no matter where you are. I'm going to do another video on it soon. Some ads are injected and are hard to block. KZbin is about to inject adds into the video stream which will make it very hard for ads to be blocked on KZbin. Hi Keith, hope you are well. Thanks for the video. I watched and did all you did last night for Aguard. I followed your every step. I could see It was blocking ads in the Dashboard, but when I came to KZbin I was flooded with ads. I can't go through my router it is ISP-locked. I don't have a static IP. Can I use any browser or must it be Firefox? and not Chrome. I'm using Google Chrome. Or maybe change to Brave? I did uninstall AdGuard. I do still have the Adguard .zip file. I'm running Windows 11 Home Simple Language (Intel, not AMD) and I downloaded the .zip that is "AdGuardHome_Windows_386.zip" Was I correct? Please could you help and see where I'm going wrong. Thanks, Take care

Hey Thanks for watching! I'm afraid that youtube are now injecting ad's into their pages/videos which is incredibly hard to block. They are testing various methods across the google eco system to block ad blockers. At this time their is no known way to get around this. You could however use github.com/tubearchivist/tubearchivist which downloads youtube videos and then you can watch them on a web page hosted on your system. I could add this to my list of videos to make if you want. I believe youtube are testing this blocking tech on various accounts and browsers so you could always try not logging in and also using different browsers. VPN use too! But I think eventually they will make it so its a ton of ad's or premium. Hope that helps. Don't forget to like and subscribe if you haven't already and welcome onboard.

How would you setup the custom block page as it only takes an IP and wont work with SSL. thank you
@KLTechVideos
@KLTechVideos 4 ай бұрын
Thanks for your comment, don't forget to like, subscribe and welcome onboard! 🖖 Essentially custom block pages are becoming a thing of the past. Why? DNS resolvers are their to resolve hostname and ip's. They are not their to redirect to block pages as cool as this is. That said pre https era this was a simple thing to do but since https with higher security standards redirecting from a https url which the majority of the web is today is not allowed and is built to that effect. If we could still redirect https pages today as easy as this then anyone anywhere could use it for malicious acts. HSTS a security technology also ended this ability as it forces the page to only resolve to the correct location. I am no expert in this field and tried to dumb this down even for myself. But after extensive research into the custom block ip setting in Adguard and even setting up my own web server on a raspberry pi and using the ip on that to redirect my blocked pages to it only ever worked for http and for all https quires that over 90% of the web uses it just showed a connection refused error. So sorry to say this is basically a useless setting. If anyone does manage to get this working with HTTPS i would be very surprised and certainly would not trust their intentions.

I know this is a different question. I use Adguard software along side with Adguard home. I'm not really sure if I need to enable DNS protection on Adguard if I'm already using Adguard Home. Any advise would be much appreciated. Thank you.
@KLTechVideos
@KLTechVideos 3 ай бұрын
That is a complex question. It has many answers. Some people would say you don't need to run ad guard as an application if you are already running it at the router level by installing it on your own server. If you use a VPN to connect back home and your DNS is also pointing back home then using an application on top of this is double the workload. If you don't have your DNS pointing back home when you're outside of your network then using the adguard app is recommended because that will still keep you protected when you're outside your network. So it really depends on your setup.
@silver33
@silver33 3 ай бұрын
@@KLTechVideos My setup is not complex at all. It's very basic, I don't have DNS pointing back home or anything like that. I was not sure if turning on the DNS protection on the app is redundant or if it will slow it down if I already have Home setup already.
@KLTechVideos
@KLTechVideos 3 ай бұрын
Ah I see. DNS protection just means it will send your DNS requests to adguard usually encrypted. It just further limits what your ISP does see. Although they can still see the IP address of the website you'll connecting to unless you use a VPN. The other benefits of protected DNS is that it's harder for people to send you to fake websites because adguard tightly controls the domains listed in its DNS servers. In some instances using adguards protected DNS can allow access to websites your ISP block. It's unlikely to affect actual speed that much as it's not a VPN service so it's not directing all your traffic through it. Think of adguard DNS protection as just using a different address book to look up websites. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching don't forget to like and subscribe welcome on board. 🖖

How can you identify clients? I've changed the DNS on the router but only the router IP shows in the clients
@KLTechVideos
@KLTechVideos 5 ай бұрын
A lot of routers have router level DNS handling. So all devices DNS go through the router and then get forwarded into adguard instead of routed. What router do you have? I run firewalla gold SE and have the same. My client show as the firewalla gold SE but I can still see all their requests. There maybe a way to resolve it. Happy to look into it for you. i have 200 pppoe clients, i want to use this, what hardware can you suggest?
@KLTechVideos
@KLTechVideos 7 ай бұрын
Thanks for watching my video. I run this on my home server which have the following specs: Ryzen 9 5900X 64GB of ram 2.5GB Ethernet over a 1Gbps connection. But you don't need anywhere near that to get good performance from Adguard. A raspberry pi 4 would do the trick nicely for that many clients. A Raspberry Pi 4 could reasonably handle AdGuard Home for 200 PPPoE clients, but let's break down why and explore some considerations: Why Raspberry Pi 4 is suitable: Power: The Raspberry Pi 4 has a quad-core processor that's sufficient for the computational demands of AdGuard Home, even with a larger number of clients. RAM: 2GB, 4GB, or 8GB RAM models are available. While more RAM is always better, even the 2GB variant should suffice for this use case. Networking: The built-in Gigabit Ethernet port is essential for handling the traffic flow smoothly. Considerations: DNS Queries: The number of DNS queries your clients generate is the biggest performance factor. If you have a high volume of DNS traffic, you might want to bump up the Raspberry Pi's RAM or consider a slightly more powerful device. Filtering Complexity: If you use extensive custom filtering rules or blocklists, this increases the workload on the device. Storage: A decent microSD card (for the OS and AdGuard's database) is sufficient. Opt for a faster card if possible for better responsiveness. Future-proofing: While sufficient now, consider if your client count is likely to significantly increase in the future. how safe is adguard dns ? the website which does the same thing
@KLTechVideos
@KLTechVideos Ай бұрын
Depends. If your selfhosting adguard like shown in the video then the data stays on your hardware and your in control of it. Further to that you are increasing your privacy and internet control by using it because by it's design it's built to block web trackers and other nasties. If however you download the adguard DNS application and do not selfhost which is not shown in this video things change slightly.... **Adguard DNS is generally considered safe to use.** They have a strong reputation in the privacy and security space and focus heavily on protecting user data. Their privacy policy clearly outlines how they handle DNS queries, and they don't sell or share your data with third parties. The website itself is also well-secured. They use HTTPS encryption to protect your connection, and there haven't been any major security incidents reported. **However, as with any online service, there's always some level of risk.** Adguard is a third-party service, so you're placing some trust in them to handle your DNS traffic responsibly. If you're particularly concerned about privacy, you might consider setting up your own DNS server or using a more decentralized option. **Overall, though, for most users, Adguard DNS is a safe and reliable choice for improving privacy and blocking unwanted content.** Thanks for watching and your comments.
