I knew that my hormones were the issue that affected so much of my life. I'm now in my 50's and a lot of my problems have leveled out. It's about time that doctors are actually addressing this. My generation just fell through the cracks!

@@palomawoma I think medicine is actually worse than it used to be in a lot of ways. The technology is improving; but, the general level of care isn't nearly as complete. I'm sorry it's still happening! Is seems like things are improving for women; but, we still always seem to be left with the short end of the stick!❤

@@LEO91968 Definite improvement, but still a long way to go. My gynecologist straight out told me the hormonal impact on women wasn't studied as it was too complicated, so they just stopped at men. Hormones play a massive role in the entirety of a womens life, it amazes me they've got away with it this long! Thankfully I see more studies are being done, but getting funding is always an issue. At least I've got menopause to look forward to😁

So while estrogen is at its lowest right before and right at the beginning of menstruation, it also falls dramatically right after ovulation. Which I just put together is why I could not leave the house today and was barely able to make myself food 😬 Taking it easy today ✌🏽💕

Oh. My. Word. I'm not only post-menopause, but also I take an oestrogen inhibitor because the breat cancer I had 5 years ago was an oestrogen positive type (i.e. the cancer cells fed on oestrogen to make them grow). So my oestrogen levels are way, way down... And, guess what? I have the same struggles I had when I was young and before my periods stabilised. Light bulb moment!

Hi Purple Ella. I'm currently in perimenopause, 51yo and have an unrecognized nero divers awesome brain. I'm definitely dyslexic probably adhd and open to considering autism as another possible factor for me. While learning to navigate my best health I learned that Alzheimer's and menopause have a direct connection. Our amazing female brains need estrogen to properly function. Alzheimer's is usually diagnosed in elderly women but the brain literally begins shrinking long before old age if we're not informed to prevent it. I'm researching nero diversity to better protect my awesome weird brain. Thank you for all this great information you offer and everyone keep your brain healthy. 💜

Through my own personal love of research, and terrible health issues, I discovered (without the help of any of my doctors) that I have an estrogen-related problem and I do present most ADHD symptoms (and respond well to Adderall due to on-going fatigue). The last 3-4 months of my cycles have been emotionally unbearable and I have ovarian cysts (some growing quite large, requiring ER visits). I felt I may be estrogen-dominant but after this video, maybe it fluctuates too low at times and too high at others. Any way, thanks for sharing. I plan to tell my doctor I need a hormone screening to see where I'm at. I also have an upcoming ultra sound to check on the cyst issue. I feel so useless and unproductive like everyone else can actively (and happily) participate in their own lives but I just have to sit back, struggle immensely to do simple daily tasks, and watch people go after their dreams while I yearn to simply be productive, ambitious, and accomplish my own. (I'm not jealous of them, I just wish I were energetically normal and healthy like others seem to be.) Thanks again for the share. It's nice to know I'm not some useless freak who is lazy and lacking ambition, lbs! Hope you are doing well.

girl go on bio-identical transdermal estrogen patches. Its been a game changer for me. Wowsers. I feel so much better with my patch on it gave me a new lease on life. Right now Im living in mexico and my supply of patches that i brought from Australia just ran out and cannot get the patches here so im thinking about getting a pellet put in to keep my estrogen high and stable. Estrogen enhances the positive effects of most stim ADHD meds, and Progesterone decreases basically. Unfortunately we need progesterone too. Even though its not good for ADHD its protecting our uturous from thickening if the estrogen is unopposed. I recommend the Estrodot patches in combo with Prometrium. But any regime must be followed closely by a Gyn or Doc that knows about hormones and does the right tests first. I am only 39 not in menopause but HRT has been game changer. I had severe PMDD too along with my ADHD and HRT has sorted me out. I think its safer than being on the pill as these hormones are Bio-Identical not weird analogue hormones. Im gonna go listen to the podcast now, thanks for your video !!! wishing you all the best with your health xo

I had a radical hysterectomy in December 2019 as a last resort for my endometriosis, and entered surgical perimenopause. Endometriosis feeds on estrogen so my doctor and I didn't do any add back hormones. My autism and ADHD (undiagnosed at the time) flat out BROKE on me. It was a year before we set up a neuropsychologist consult. I have anxiety depression and PTSD as well, so we thought it was just that. My communication was clear to me but not to others. Everything suddenly had a much lower threshold for a meltdown, and the meltdowns became more severe. Prior to this, my mood was in an unprecedented high for years as I was on continuous birth control. I get the official Dx results in less than 2 weeks. I wish I knew I was ND before the hysterectomy, and the link between the hormones. I would've made a different choice. I'm stuck in PMS mode and can't get out.

I might not be understanding that right, but personally my adhd symptoms are SO much worse when I’m breastfeeding. Really interesting to hear there is a link. Depressing/scary in relation to future eg PND or periM. But better to be aware I guess! I suspected there was from my own experience. I've found the info on pms & pmdd in Laura Briden's book "period repair manual" especially helpful. In particular taking b6 100mg the week before period and then 50mg the rest of the month seems to really help mood. That & 5mg folic acid. Would be interesting to see about different meds doses the week before too.

As for me, I didn't have a postpartum depression BUT my pregnancy was a total disaster. It started with suicidal thoughts and extreme mood disorder. My first and third trimesters were just awful in a sense of emotional instability and lack of focus. I was pretty sure I would commit suicide right after giving birth. I was not diagnosed back then. My depression started after some other events when my baby was 4 m.o. So when she approached one year old I was in an extremely dark mood and tried to hang myself. But I don't know whether it was related to hormonal levels or not. I got diagnosed then and was presripted with drugs. And I felt much better after quitting breastfeeding and starting taking antidepressants and mood stabilizers.

@Alice_Walker
@Alice_Walker 10 ай бұрын
@@emilywoodham1555 it's been close to a miracle how helpful it's been for me. I was a total mess for 4 to 7 days before my period. It would then take me a week to build my mental and emotional resilience back up and I'd be all over the place that week too. So I was a mess two weeks out of every month because of my periods. Now I just very occasionally get a little breakthrough spotting and I might have a 12 hour window of feeling a bit off around that but it's manageable. I've never taken stimulant meds (long work related story) so I can't say how that would interact sorry. If it's something about the hormone changes themselves during PMS that make the meds ineffective (ie baseline ADHD not worse but meds not working) I don't know if mirena would have such a huge positive effect. For me it is that my PMS makes me feel completely out of control emotionally and kicks my adhd symptoms up to tornado of chaos level, so removing the PMS part of the puzzle via the mirena helps enormously. To give it some sense of scale of how much it helps, if my adhd symptoms are a 1 on a "normal" day and a 10 on my PMS days, now in those rare occasions of breakthrough spotting my hormones are only kicking me up to like a 3 and that only happens about every third month for a single day 🙌🏻 I'm definitely biased because of how incredibly helpful I find it, but I would encourage anyone thinking about it to give it a go.

In your case it works just as how it's supposed to be. PM in PMDD and PMS stands for 'pre-menstrual' which means they occur before menstruation, not at the time of your periods. Also, this: 'According to an article by a licensed clinical psychologist specializing in ADHD, women often experience more or worsening symptoms during the last 2 weeks of their cycle as progesterone levels rise.'

Have you looked into PMDD and lidocaine ineffective ADHD? in women it shows up as PMDD in men lidocaine is hit and miss. This is information coming out of the states. The nhs are in the dark about this and you go for years with misdiagnosis and medical neglect.

THIS is called PME. ITS NOT JUST ADHD. ITS ANY MENTAL HEALTH CONDITION. I was diagnosed with PMDD which has turned into PME. PME is called premenstrual exasperation. If you're anything like me what she's saying right now is a continuous vicious cycle. But we have to start somewhere so let's start with taking care of ourselves and exercising and our diet. As long as you don't have any type of iron deficiency I highly recommend the Mediterranean diet. Look into it. So now that we are taking care of our body. Because I'm afraid that my condition keeps me from doing that the best that I can. So let's start to focus on that. Then let's get everything regulated. This is such a hard thing to get a handle on at least for me it is but I can't give up I think I have finally found that piece that I've been missing Hallelujah. I've been diagnosed from everything from bipolar to borderline personality disorder cptsd. And my sister has ADHD. Why I haven't been diagnosed with it yet I do not know but my dad also has ADHD. I guess it's because I'm not bouncing off the walls. And I have another preexisting mental health condition. I guess my parents Focus tomorrow on my depression growing up and more on my sister's inability to focus. And I guess I could never pay attention enough to figure it out lol

I didn't know I had ADHD and when I discovered I tried telling my mom she said I was being immature for my age so I kept it to myself. And I have been looking for a lasting solution since then. With the help of Dr Iyhere on youtube I have been happy recently.

Transgender women who take hormone medication (for the balance their bodies and minds need) experience the same rise in symptoms once a month. Yes, trans women have periods but they don't menstruate. ADHD becomes VERY apparent during this time along with all the usual symptoms cisgender women experience. Science a key to the universe and it never fails to astonish me.

Great content but I want to point out that you're demonstrating the link between "menstruating people" and sex/gender (estrogen) while affirming the non-existence of sex/gender. As this video succinctly highlights, it is extremely valuable to recognize the clear (hormonal) link between biological sex and the identity we associate with.

Friendly reminder that trans feminine people and trans women who are on hrt also experience hormonal fluctuations and period symptoms - apart from bleeding obviously. Wanted to say this as at the beginning you said this applied to those who menstruate, when it also can apply to those who are assigned male at birth as well xx
