Hi 👋 ! My Name is Alice, I created The Mini ADHD Coach in August 2020 when I was just diagnosed with ADHD at 29.
After years of questioning, therapy, burnout, and chaotic career path changes, I finally understood why I struggled with so many things.
So I decided to share what I learned to raise awareness around ADHD and help the ADHD community thrive.

Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is often associated with impulsivity, inattention, and hyperactivity. However, an often-overlooked manifestation in some ADHD individuals is the tendency towards hoarding. Endless struggles to organize, make decisions promptly, and the challenges of getting easily distracted can contribute to accumulations of items that might seem unnecessary to others.
The link between ADHD and hoarding can be attributed to executive function deficits. Executive functions refer to the mental skills that help manage time, pay attention, switch focus, organize tasks, and remember details. Individuals with ADHD may struggle with the decision-making process about what to keep and what to discard, leading to excessive clutter. The emotional attachment to objects, combined with impulsivity, can make it hard to part with items, even when they serve no practical purpose.
Addressing hoarding in ADHD individuals requires a tailored approach. Alongside conventional ADHD treatments, cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) targeting hoarding tendencies can be beneficial. Implementing organizational strategies, setting small decluttering goals, and seeking support from professionals or support groups can pave the way for improved well-being and a healthier living environment.

I'm watching this from my disaster of an office. I collect AND hoard. I have organized displays of collections and piles of stuff on the floor, in boxes, etc. 😐

This has been one of the defining features of my life. At this point I'm realizing that most of my personality is just ADHD.

I was diagnosed early, as a late toddler. Which, for a girl, must be a record. Anyway, I realized in my teens that I tend to clutter and since then actively worked against it. I think this early practising of decluttering my stuff has been life saving for me.

In addition to ADHD & Hoarding, I think I need Chronic Fatigue & Hoarding. Being too tired really slows down the decision making process!

The description of why it's so difficult is good. The solution is laughably over simplified.

Good to know that I am not a hoarder at least, but I do experience things piling up from not putting them away...and it just grows until I see that it's an actively becoming an issue.

it's not easy in a world that's not ready for what we call neurodiversity (i had to add this barbaric term to the google dictionary ) but in a moment of lucidity I manage to buy 2 or 3 trash bags in which I put everything I have accumulated over time without necessity (because of a certain time blindness ?) and in the early morning, after the cleaning services have passed I really feel like I've accomplished a task. and i am secretly promising myself not to buy anymore what I don't need but promises, promises !

Me and my girlfriend are moving in and I’m terrified that I’ll bring my hoarding to our new home as well.

Hoarding hasn't become a "real problem" for me because my family often gets rid of my stuff such as my sister losing my 6th grade notebook (I have a graduate's degree, I still keep those around) or my brother accidently burning my pictures, it had memories but also 5000+ screenshots that I was not going to delete. I mentally detach myself from the whole category when that happens because revisiting it causes intense emotional pain and frustration

I face this situation of things clutter up so much that i can't handle. So I make some simplest rule to myself . 1.throw everything in my bag that I don't use today out of my everyday bag. 2. Everything in the closet that I didn't wear in latest vacation or friend meeting go to the trash can 3.Books that I'm not binge reading during break go to thrift store Right now my stuff look so clean with this trick lol. I rarely have to take care of stuff since there's nothing much left😂
