I have recently just been told I have BPD instead of ADHD. Which given half my symptoms aren’t even on the list of BPD symptoms, doesn’t really make sense.

Same here, also put through hell by the NHS in the UK as a woman who was actually autistic with ADHD, and slapped with a BPD label and completely mistreated. I hope you're doing okay now !

im 28, male UK. Given the eupd diagnosis during covid over the phone. I hadnt researched anything, was incredibly happy with my diagnosis after a quick check online.. I had no idea the symptons were so similar.. yet after 4 years of believing I have a personality disorder.. I find myself in a pickle once again and stumble across this.. I maybe wrong but everything seems so, so right

Thank you so much for advocating for people with ADHD and recommending they seek an ADHD psychiatrist. Great information! Just engaged with a harmful psychiatrist trying to diagnose me with BPD based on the word of an assistant to the psychologist of a previous assessment made. 😂 I went through 20+ hours of testing and a therapist, psychiatrist and psychologist concluded I have ADHD and no other disorders. After interviewing my new psychiatrist, I determined he’s very incapable of treating ADHD and should not be treating it.

I was diagnosed with bipolar in 2005 looked into it. It wasn't geling was in a bipolar Facebook group and the guy who ran it put me on to adhd. Whilst looking into getting an adhd diagnosis on the nhs I was given the borderline lable. I eventually got my adhd diagnosis I got the combined type! I take stimulents but they only seem to work on the impulsive aspect not the inattentive!

This is me. I was diagnosed with BPD.I have no obsession with 'avoiding abandonment'. All the ADHD traits fit me and every time I do an online test it tells me I have it. Sadly, I can't afford to go private and my GP refused to let me revisit the BPD diagnoses to overturn it. I hate seeing the BPD on my paperwork, it's very stigmatised and most importantly WRONG.

It’s possible to have both too but I reckon your spot on Also it’s very common to actually have autism spectrum and adhd combined on top of it NVLD and dyspraxia and other neurodivergent things are not really talked about and understood in uk but I think it overlaps with thecuasation of bpd sometimes as living in a world where y can’t learn like other peoooe and your co ordination is rubbish or your hypersensitive to pain can be very stressful . Neurodiverse is a big umbrella where it’s all tangled and woven in to each other

also I will add.. the UK's NHS is just full on misinformation and outdated methods on diagnosis.. The NHS is the most important thing we have and its honestly got to the stage that you have to play the NHS like a game to get the treatment you need

I was diagnosed with lupus and BPD last year whilst I was in hospital with health issues, it just happened that I got severely emotional about being in a bay with another lady who had her own problems too, I couldn’t even speak when the doctor did his rounds one day so they sent the mental team to see me and asked a bunch of questions, I still haven’t been given a specialist about anything, it is extremely frustrating I can’t even get a GP appointment as I can’t sleep at night, I probably don’t sleep until 4 or 5am but then can’t wake up in time to ring at 8am for an appointment or stay awake because the doctor can ring me back anytime up to 6.30pm when they close and it’s not possible for me stay awake all night then all day just for a 10 minute phone call

My daughter got misdiagnosed with EUPD, but didn't think the diagnosis was right. She kept missing school, CAHMS didn't pick up on her having ADHD. I had to pay for a private assessment, now it's confirmed she's ADHD, we're having problems getting her EUPD removed from her medical records. Are you able to advise please?

A family member is looking into a eupd dx because she’s feeling so awful, but I am 90% sure she has (adult) adhd instead (so many reason why). I wasn’t supposed to see her notes on eupd, but she left laying about out. I didn’t confront her about it, I pretended I didn’t see them, but I think she’s going down the wrong path. Any tips on steering her down the right track?

I'm not sure I was diagnosed with Autism but I was also told im borderline adhd which idk what this means with a processing disorder, not sure about this either because I started struggling with my concentration, being forgetful, most I used to have so much intrusive thoughts but now it's different not sure if it's that my thought aren't organised but it feel different from how I used to be which I used to be more normal before the age of 14 but I had anger problems and I was told the anger outbursts are the reason for my autism diagnosis, about the unorganised thoughts Idk if its that or anything because I have problems thinking I always think it feels like when I try to think about something simple it's hard like I literally feel like there's nothing in my head, not sure if that's why you call unorganised thoughts or anything but these problems are very disruptive for my days and some of the symptoms are either getting worse or I'm having new symptoms on top of it. Also I think you call it dissociate not sure but most of the times when I need to do smthn or say for example I got on a walk I forget why I went out didn't realise why I was there, I knew where I was it's just odd

My sister was diagnosed with ADHD. I didnt communicate with her for a week because I was traveling National Parks with no cell service. After that week, I then learned she had a fear of abandonment. Even though I told her where I was going. Is that ADHD or BPD? I want to help her.

One can have a fear of abandonment and not have a mental health disorder, but if she has at least 4 of the other 9 symptoms then she may well have bpd . Hope that helps 👍

I think this person is giving very dangerous advice, it takes years to be diagnosed with BPD/ Bipolar. There are certain symptoms you just can't make up, I do understand where she's coming from but the doctors will send you right home if you come with the sheet diagnosing yourself. You don't have to be a younger doctor to understand adult ADHD or any definition they want to upgrade doctors read journals to see what's out new and any one worth their salt will adjust. As a person who suffers from BPD, a lot of them are intertwined together, you can have a few traits of ADHD, some depression anxiety they all go hand in hand it's easy to get mixed up. Remember a doctor seen you for how long 30 minutes to 45 minutes max? The ones that make the Judgment very quickly those are not good doctors, what I do agree is the doctors from the past are pretty much taught to just write a script and that is dangerous also. You never said what the treatment for adult ADHD is are you just going to give everybody cocaine that's what Adderall is and Ritalin. CBT therapy is good but it is very expensive in the United States not covered by hardly any insurance and many doctors don't even know what it is. Then again many probably don't want to know what it is because it's drug-free and it's proven to work and if you stick with it it can last a very long time with no side effects. Just seems like the industry wants to prescribe pills for everyone.

I was a dv survivor and they never scanned me for trauma at all and never asked me direct questions from dsm under eupd/bpd. I was in there in the first place because abuse was making me feel and act strangely like occasionally visual/audio hallucinations and paranoia. But the paranoia was pretty real due to ex r* me and the mental/physical abuse (starvation, sleep deprivation), harassment, stalking. He drove me to feel suicidal and attempt because i could not escape his coercive control and it never stopped when we split up. I felt unsafe everywhere even at my parents as my father is abusive too. So i got diagnosed within 40 mins just because i was frustrated with my mother saying i hsd a happy childhood when i was neglected and repeatedly fed mouldy/burnt food. Emotionally neglected by Emotionally immature parents who had no care about my achievements etc. I genuinely fitted more with adhd/add and anxiety/depression with episodes of contamination ocd but it's all about control.

It definitely takes a long time for people with BPD to get an official diagnosis and that is unfortunate but it is EXTREMELY common for people with ADHD to be misdiagnosed (especially Adult Women) and it's often 1. Anxiety & Depression comborbid disorder 2. Bipolar 3. EUPD/BPD This is because 1. Masking 2. Lack of research and awareness 3. Generalization of symptoms by the psychiatrist 4. Unprofessionalism and Unconscious Bias "you can't have said disorder, you know too much about it". These are also some of the reasons why people with BPD get misdiagnosed so often as well

It does not take 'years' to be diagnosed with EUPD. They do it by ticking boxes in one session. Hopefully, for bipolar disorder to be diagnosed, you would have had a hyper manic episode, but I think there is now a 'milder' form diagnosed, which could be misdiagnosed ADHD. True, full- blown bi polar with mania (not the new milder version) is unmistakable. The only thing you can mistake a serious case of bipolar for is Schizoaffective disorder.

@user-uz2vc1gc6v you have zero idea what you're talking about borderline personality disorder and bipolar can be indistinguishable at times. Unless you're in the hospital with a month's day or a few months day very hard for a doctor to diagnose you when they only see you for a few minutes. And remember they're only seeing how you feel that day. There is no newer version that is made up, just like everyone now has PTSD and ADHD they just make this stuff up. Not saying ADHD doesn't exist but they now just label almost anyone ADHD and give them Adderall. Same thing with PTSD if someone is suffering from something oh it's PTSD when it's a real slap in the face to people who have real PTSD. A lot of these go hand in hand a lot of times you will have depression and bipolar remember the doctor has to catch that high or that low and it's not that easy. A lot of these comorbidities are intermingled you can have depression and PTSD you can have bipolar and many other things it's really hard. It's also a lot harder when like I said most doctors see you for what 45 minutes once a month what can they really do? Either you have to be with the same doctor for quite a long time who can see the ups and downs and the differences or if your hospitalized that's where they can really see what you are but most people do not get a hospitalized and nowadays they throw you out after 72 hours they don't give you the treatment like they did back in the day. It's why so many people are screwed up they just hand over a script and that's it and I understand they don't have much to work with the doctors but they are very liberal to hand out prescriptions of Adderall or anxiety medication after one visit or people are just getting it now online via telemed that's what a joke it is. If you go on Reddit or any other place you will see people are self-diagnosing themselves.
