Following train tracks and roads is Good Survivalist skill. However, if one is Lost in RDR2, one just has to go South and East to find civilization, and away from the Edge. Follow the Sun/Shadows, pretty basic(shadows move from pointing West as the Sun rises, across North, to point West). Hugs!

Also I have an idea for you to retry this challenge and make it even harder while still in the map. You can't use any form of fast traveling no matter how long it takes to travel. Like roads, trains, horses, vehicles, railroad tracks, and you can probably use trails, but they won't be of any use, because they will lead you right back to roads. Nothing in your inventory, and you can obviously not spawn anywhere near the city or town you are going to. You also cannot go into any other town or city.

Close your eyes and try to randomly mark a spot on the map (or get a friend… a real person to do it ) then hide the map and ride to a road/path then get your horse to auto ride to said spot. Leave the room and come back 15 mins later and see where the F you are. Now with no map or compass try and find your way to civilisation
