Police will still lose your Honor most of the time, for instance in the mission with Micah you lose Honor for it.

Nah, there's no civilians in town during the shootout, there's enemies who aren't technically law who you don't lose Honor for killing, and actual law who are like the ones in free roam who you do lose Honor for killing, but the game heavily encourages you to kill them to progress. There's a few law who come from the Sheriff's office who can be killed without Honor loss but any law you kill after that point, I'm pretty sure will lose you Honor. I like to think they did this deliberately just to hammer home how much of an ass Micah is.

I'm pretty sure you don't have to worry too much about losing honor by killing people in story missions because the game forces you to do that low honor act. I believe it's only when you have a choice that honor drops. So if the game says "shoot up Valentine lawmen" you'll be ok. Maybe you hit a civilian in Strawberry on accident.

As someone who habitually plays High Honor it's kind of amusing watching people who play RDR 2 like they play GTA V struggling to maintain their Honor. Although to be fair, the Honor system is famously fickle, and situations like the mission with Micah can be really hard to navigate without Honor loss. There's also some situations out of your control like showing up too late to a timed random encounter where you lose Honor for doing nothing.

I agree it is fickle. I’ll be continuing this series and it should be interesting to see how certain missions like the gray shootout in Rhodes or the trolley station play out with honor. Might be impossible or maybe possible.

Oh those should be fine. For the most part, missions where you're being swarmed with cops and have to kill them to progress don't penalise your Honor for it. In my current playthrough, where as usual I do as much in Chapter 2 as I can and treat my Honor meter like it's my child, the only times I've lost Honor is accidentally, like running someone over with my horse, the mission with Micah which seems to be the exception rather than the rule, or random encounters I don't react to fast enough. I reload my save when that happens because it's so much easier to lose Honor than gain it. For story missions you'll be fine as long as you make the right choices when they're given to you.

naaah it's not difficult to do high honour but it's not as fun as being low honour. I did the story high honour twice 'cause it's not the same when you have tuberculosis, it's much better if you're high honour after being diagnosed, feels much more immersive

It’s actually really simple. If you save people that are marked save instead of kill, and don’t do anything stupid in freeroam. You’re fine. Marked enemies with the red dot on the map you won’t lose honor when you kill them. So you can do anything you want with them. Even rival gang members in freeroam and people who you antagonize

During the mission where you break Micah out of jail I almost always lost a lil bit of honor. Especially when robbing the train later on, you have to rob some people and you lose honor.
