@ryanyap88594 жыл бұрын
The SL20 is very similar to the Adizero Adios 5 minus the boost but has a slightly higher stack height. The upper lockdown is great and reminds me of the Adios. It has enough room at the toe box and has an improved torsion system which gives stable midfoot support and a snappy ride. The new Lightstrike foam provides a firm cushioned sensation and somewhat reminds me of the NB beacon v1 fresh foam. The continental outsole performs superbly on dry and wet surfaces. This lightweight trainer is ideal for tempo runs and can also be used as a racer. It has a great price point at $120 and is one of the most value for money running shoes in the market.
@Martha-fluterunner4 жыл бұрын
I agree. I think both the Boston 8 and the SL 20 (which I also just got started running in) have the best lacing systems of all my running shoes. Once you set it up you don’t need to mess with it, and most of my other shoes the laces are way too long-drives me nuts. I agree also with “firm cushioned sensation” to describe Lightstrike, though that firm comes with a surprising bounce I wasn’t expecting, so Kofuzi is right that it’s almost as if there were a plate in the midsole. Moreover, the traction on the Continental outsole is nearly as good on solid ice as my Merrell winter walking shoes that have Arctic Grip!

Covid-19 permitting, during the following twelve months I am racing half marathon, full marathon and a 100km race, which has been postponed from May 2020 to May 2021. My training was obviously focused on the ultra distance, but now with 12 months to go before my 100km race I can keep my training fresh and interesting with different distances and new running shoes. Many thanks for your reviews!

Hey man, I rarely comment on KZbin but just want to thank you for putting out content with positivity and clarity all the time. I just got this shoe and absolutely love it. I find it really stable for a lightweight neutral runner. Loving the lightstrike. Kind of like a meat and potatoes midsole but sometimes that’s all you need. It flattens enough to give you a good response from the ground and pushes you forward.

Just getting into running (absolute beginner), and have just bought the Solarboost 19's which I've been using over the last few weeks and really enjoying so far. From reviews (including yours) I read that they are great for easy/moderate runs including longer distances, but maybe not so much for faster paced runs. Would it be worth picking up these, or the Boston 8's(?), for some faster short distance workouts (intervals, tempo runs etc.)? And thank you for uploading videos like this - for someone just getting into this great hobby they are very helpful!

Adidas RC2.0 vs Adios5 vs SL20?
@04m6gto4 жыл бұрын
@Alejandro The RC 2.0 is 100% a performance racing flat. Anything from Adidas with the name "Adizero" is a high performance item. It doesn't have Boost or Continental rubber so it keeps the price down. Otherwise, it's not much different than Adidas' other racing flats.
@ducvanbui364 жыл бұрын
I have the RC2.0 and it’s a really comfortable race flat. With the clima mesh, it’s super breathable so these shoes are great for the warmer weather. I have not race in it but used it for just uptempo runs. And can’t beat the fact it was $54 during a sale!

the SL20 is very similar to the Adios. and the Adios and the Boston are related in that the Boston is considered the training companion to the Adios, a racer. but i don't have feet strong enough to run in the Adios (and perhaps not even in this SL20) for a marathon. so I've been considering the Boston as a marathon racer for me as a regular non elite runner.
@Martha-fluterunner4 жыл бұрын
I’m a big fan of the Boston 8 and the Adios didn’t work for me at all. The fabric in the forefoot bunched up and like Kofuzi, I don’t think Adios gives me enough protection underfoot for a marathon. I’ve been using the Boston for 5-10K races and many types of workouts from speed to long. I just got the SL20 (in the same funky color way) and tested it on my 18 mi run Sat. and loved it as well. To me it feels like “more shoe” than the Boston and much more shoe than the Adios (which I only tried on at home and sent back). I don’t know the measurements but it feels like stack height is higher than the Boston. Boston disappears on my foot but SL 20 seems to provide a little more protection and rebound.....Just a feeling. The Boston hugs my foot better than almost any shoe I’ve ever had which lends to that feeling of disappearing, and I will always hope to have a pair in my rotation if they don’t change too much. Having some Boost, it’s just a different kind of springiness than the SL 20 but both are loads of fun to run in IMHO. If you love the Boston I think you’ll love this one and probably prefer each for different purposes.

Why SL20 and RC 2.0 exist when Adidas already have Adios and Boston? Do Adidas want to seperate by foam? If want boost, go with adios and boston. If want lightstrike, go with SL20 and RC 2.0. Meanwhile, I snatched up the SL 20 asap and ran 18 mi last weekend. They’re just different and both are great. I do feel like the SL 20 is more bouncy and also protects my feet. Whether or not the stack height is greater, it FEELS like it’s got more midsole. On the other hand, the Boston disappears on my foot the way it has a hugging fit on me, and it has its own kind of fun responsiveness. I trust they’ll keep Boost in the v. 9, because I know the later colorways of the 8 came with part Lightstrike, part Boost. I have the original v.8 which is all Boost.

Just reading through the comments, seems to be a bit of confusion as to where these fall in their range. Runner’s world posted this that might help clarify this: It’s a ‘mid-level’ performance shoe aimed at intermediate level runners who want something lighter and zippier than, say, an Adidas Ultraboost, but who aren’t ready for anything as extreme as an Adizero. The midsole cushioning and overall heft is sufficient to make this an option as a lightweight marathon training shoe for speedier runners - but for the masses it’ll be worn once or twice a week for your shorter sessions.
@kofuzi4 жыл бұрын
That’s exactly what I think and the opposite of what I think.

kofuzi yeah, it’s a bit weird that it uses all lightstrike and yet it’s below the adizero range which still has some boost. Curious to see what you think of this compared to the Boston 9 if you review that as well

Yes I was wondering about that too. The SL and Adios 5 and the Boston 8 were in my NYC shop but I've yet to encounter the RC. It's got a similar silouette for sure. I'm trying to figure out what the RC stands for as LS I assume is lightstrike. I'm currently using the Boston 8 with Lightstrike as my racing shoe and I am happy with the performance and the landing is true and cadence exhilarating. Currently I think it's the Boston 8 that is the fastest running shoes in the Adizero line. IMHO and if it's relevant, the best advice I received is that you are only obligated to run for yourself and your own goals are the only competition that matters.

the boston 8, assuming you mean the boston 8 without lightstrike, is a bit less race oriented. i can't comment as to the boston 8 version with lightstrike. i've not run in that.

It feels almost exactly like the brooks Hyperion tempo.
@Martha-fluterunner4 жыл бұрын
I just got both and to me they’re very different but both are great. Did you also buy both? The Hyperion Tempo feels firmer and the upper is fantastically light and breathable. I’m thinking it’ll be a great racer in warm weather. Really nice fit. The SL 20 feels more substantial and is bouncier. As Kofuzi mentioned, the upper isn’t racy-light, though it is very comfortable.

Yes I also bought both but I feel the less foam in the sl20 makes it feel a little more firm to me. I haven’t gone on many runs with the Hyperion though so in the long “run” your probably right

It’s the predecessor to the soon to come adidas adizero pro.

Hi kofuzi.what do you think about lightstrike durability?
@kofuzi4 жыл бұрын
I only have 40 miles between two shoes in lightstrike. I can’t yet comment

How do you think about pull tab on the tongue? Are they irritating when you are running?
@kofuzi4 жыл бұрын
I’ve heard people are cutting theirs off. I ran with taller socks in this particular day, so I had no issue.
@Martha-fluterunner4 жыл бұрын
I wrote about this somewhere already! The day I got them I wore low-cut socks and did a session on the treadmill. That stiff fabric tab looks cool, but it dug into the front of my ankle, which also then caused the tongue to move a little off-center. As soon as I finished, I knew the shoes were keepers but that I would cut off the end of the tab and all is well. The fabric doesn’t look like it can possibly fray--it’s very dense and it cut off cleanly. I only had to cut off 1/4” and the cute Adidas logo is still there :)

So....it's just a useless decoration?

interested in this shoe, but a bit wondering if lightstrike is as responsive as boost. Seems like it is definitely lighter though. Between the SL20 and kinvara 11, which one do you like more?
@kofuzi4 жыл бұрын
They’re different shoes for different things. I personally wouldn’t use the Kinvara for a workout like this one.

Hi mate. Are the shoes true to size ? I always needed to up size in the adios. Cheers pal. 🇬🇧
@kofuzi4 жыл бұрын
Yes and no, in your case. I think they’re true to size. But I also went with my same Adios size (which is the same size 9 I order in all my shoes)

Should I buy the adios 5 If I am a race oriented runner ?
@kofuzi4 жыл бұрын
that's the way i would lean, but the nuances are subtle

Would you choose this or Boston 8 for daily trainer or if you wanted one shoe?
@kofuzi4 жыл бұрын
If I could only have one shoe, I’d go with the Boston 8, as it has more versatility. The Boston 9 is supposed to come out in a few days, but with everything going on, who actually knows? 🤷🏻♂️
