Just a psychology nerd’s think piece: Caitlin and Mary approached that last question from 2 different angles. Caitlin answered qualities that you needed to have inherently to make it. She’s right to say that in terms of *inherent* qualities, discipline and mental toughness are lower down the ladder purely because they can be trained (unlike talent), and the training needed to be an elite athlete would include training these qualities. You can’t deny that talent is a key factor - it’s a fact that everyone that makes it on the elite level is talented. After all, hard work only beats talent when talent doesn’t work hard. Mary answered in terms of the “end product” - talent is just the start, you need the discipline and the mental toughness to fight your way through to make it. Take these two angles together, you get that talent is a key component but will only get you so far, you’ve got to put in the work.

Time management, dynamic focus strategy, discipline, objective quality and relative productivity: goal achieved. Quality of life? Okay?

Very normal girls.. Nobody puts pressure on you as much as you put on yourself. Australians are more concerned with winning than the quality of play but these two only find satisfaction in their performance not the result. THAT makes them good sportswomen, but puts them at odds with most Australian fans
