And here we are, it's almost 2020, and Shawn still stands on the peak of guitar Mount Olympus.

on a warm Sunday at Audubon Park. These kids started to set up by the pavilion. Audubon in the 70s was the best place to party in America and Thousands were there on Nice Sundays and every night in the summer. Bands showed up and you never knew what you would see in Memphis. So people started gathering around to see these young teenagers would do. After the first song by Savage everyone's jaw hit the ground and so people just came from the far side of the lake and people just trying to get to the front to see what they were hearing it was Shawn's coming out he was thirteen or fourteen years old. He is about two years younger than me. But Savage and he blew everyone away and being a Blackmore fan I knew I was witnessing greatness. Shawn was better than most the guitarist in the Big Name Bands. I and thousands would never forget the day Shawn and Savage Rocked the park. May He Rest in Peace. You will never meet anyone as humble and nice as Shawn. What a blessing he was to Memphis Tennessee and anyone that had the pleasure to meet him. He up in Heaven showing Hendrix how he did that stuff.

I was at this show and had the pleasure of meeting Shawn and asking him a few questions about his gear and stage setup. Something unique he did with one of his guitars was to use a neck model Seymour Duncan '59 in the bridge to achieve more highs. At this particular show, he ran two Holmes tube heads in stereo with one side dry and the other slightly delayed to achieve a 3D presence onstage. The man was also very humble despite being one of the greatest guitarist/composers of our time.

I also heard he used DiMarzio PAF’s in his Ibanez guitars the Ghostrider and Saber plus in his Vigar guitars. Plus I heard audio form his April 93 clinic that he used a Boss Chorus(mainly for when he used clean tones) and a Boss Octaver and a couple extra Boss Digital Delays.

This song proves that complexity and technicality doesn’t ruin the soul of a song. Intricate and detailed, yet beautiful. It’s so sad what happened to shawn. He showed me that jazz and rock can be fused into one piece of music

He doesn't sound anything like him, but Shawn has said many times that he owes it all to Holdsworth. He's said more than once that if he had not seen Holdsworth play when he was 14 or so, there's no telling where he would have ended up.

Just incredible, he makes it look like a walk through the park, but anyone who knows music knows what Shawn plays here is no walk through the park technically. Inspiring and uplifting, I love this tune.

what sets shawn apart to me was his phrasing and melodic playing. a lot of guys can play fast some even faster but the majority of them are just wanking and playing a bunch of noise. nothing that would move you and touch your soul. shawn was able to do that while playing some of the most technically insane licks.
