If you are referring to Clontarf, we ended Viking influence in Ireland with that decisive victory, lead by King Brian Boru, high King of Ireland, who died during the battle. AD 1014.

There were Vikings on both sides at Clontarf and Brian Boru did not die in the battle. He was in his tent praying for victory when a Viking from the other side burst in and slew him.

Brian Boru was the one of the very few men in Irish history to gain the title of "Ard Ri" High King , while he may have been unpopular in Dublin where the irish there were a bunch of viking cock suckers and in the north of Ireland where the Uí Néill where a bunch of self serving cowards , in the rest of Ireland King Brian Boru was very popular and was the hammer blow and death knell to any Viking plans to dominate the island of Ireland. He fought against Viking occupation his whole life ,he watched his people being murdered and enslaved , he lost his father, his brothers ,his nephews and cousins and friends to the Viking axe but he kept on fighting until the united Irish forces under his command (with some viking mercenaries) slaughtered and drove the Vikings and their Dublin servants into a blood red sea at the bay of Contarf. Very good example, and yes a great battle happened just down the road from m, but not many people of the town no about it. We also had the first stone Irish castle built in Ireland in Tuam town by the high king around the same time he used Tuam as his base to deal with some Irish clans aswell as vikings but there was a very big battle back in that time frame I think so interesting stuff

You do realize that vikings of Limerick, Waterford, Wexford, and most likely Cork fought on the side of Brian? Also Ospak of Mann along with 500 hundred crack troops (vikings) also fought for Brian.. Another thing: the Irish king of Leinster fought alongside Sigurd the stout of Orkney... So your claim is not correct.. there were plenty of vikings on the winning side.

No ambushes, no skirmishes no traps set. Lovely flat ground for the enemy to maneuver. Mounted infantry, Never seemed to attack the flank. Irish deserved to loose.

This would seem to be a mock portrayal of the Battle of Clontarf in 1014 AD but that is not the way it turned out, The Irish led by King Brian Boru were victorious, effectively putting an end to Danish/Viking rule in Ireland. It is true that the Vikings summoned extra forces from abroad for the mega battle but were still outnumbered and thwarted by the assistance and reserve forces afforded to King Brian by other provincial kings, notably one Maolseachlan II who managed to scupper the vacated Danish ships offshore, cutting off the Danes' escape. Of course Ireland's troubles would continue with future invasions by Normans and English etc. The Battle of Clontarf, if portrayed correctly, should make a good film just as the Battle of Bannockburn did portraying the Scots, led by Robert Bruce, defeating the English.

Hi, The Irish did win on the day, but they lost their King and some of his family. The Irish lost their unity and the Clans warred against each other again. This made them susceptible to the Norman invasion 400 years later.

The fleeing Vikings after the battle could not get to their ships, because of the tide. Thank you for bringing life to the event.

My da told us the story of Brian Boru when he and the boys took on Olaf "Skull Splitter" and his guys. He said that as Olaf's axe was coming down Brian who was down on the ground swing his sword. According to my dad about the time the axe split Brian's skull, Olaf lost his legs at the knees and bled out. Damn stinking horn head bastids disturbing an afternoon of imbibing for the boys.

It is most probable that this sort of battle be a slogging match without much finesse. 3 points: - Historically, the Vikings were raiders and skirmishers; their results in ranged battle against organized and determined armies were not so good as legend says; for instance, in 854, they lost against the Francs near Orleans; and, finally against the Saxons at Stamford Bridge, in 1066; they lost also a decisive battle in 878 against Alfred the great; the key words are organized and determined; - There was a decisive historical battle between Irish and Vikings, at Clontarf on the 23th of April 1014; the Irish won; in fact, the Vikings were allied to some Irishmen and it is possible that there were Vikings on both sides; the casualties were tremendous on both sides; en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Clontarf - In the battle you show to us, if I had been the Irish general, I would have kept the cavalry apart, on one aisle, reserving it for a flank attack when the general melee was engaged. 😀

Just to point out, this was not a strictly Irish v vikings battle. There were Irish and vikings on both sides eg limerick vikings fought with Brian boru, and Irish, from the Irish Kingdom of Leinster, fought with the viking leader, King Sitric of Dublin. Also there are experts in viking Irish history who believe the Battle of clontarf was more a draw than an outright victory for the forces under Brian boru. Reason being that following this battle the vikings continued to rule Dublin until the arrival of the Norman in 1170 approx plus the fact that the viking leader, king Sitric, remained as king of Dublin for over twenty years after the battle.

The Irish knocked the Vikings off bro the sea each time over 250 years. The Irish allowed them to have trading ports in Waterford, Dublin, and Limerick. This fact is conveniently ignored by Viking historians.

Тот же Гастингс, гигантская по тем временам битва двух мощных сил и крупных централизованных богатых государство самого конца эпохи, собрала в себя не более 15 тысяч участников максимум. И это эпическая битва, решившая судьбу целой страны, и пожалуй что не одной. Троны Британии тем и хороши, что едва ли не единственные в серии позволяют проводить в игре битвы в масштабе 1 к 1 в сравнении с их реальными прототипами раннего Средневековья, в отличие от Рима-2, Наполеона и других игр серии.

Oj chlopie slabo. jesli chodzi o historie.Bardziej to byla armia Dunska bardziej uniwersalna i nowoczesniejsza.Ktora posiadala w jakims okresie huskarlow i moze inne ,ale byla Amia.Jesli chodzi o vikingow to 150 w porywach do 200 podbilo wiekszosc Angli.Jesli doszukac sie tam epickich bitew z okresu Ragnara to viki 80 vs jakis krolewicz angielski 160 viki wygrali.Epickie wojny.Nie wiem jakiego moda uzyles,jak widzialem armie vikingow to polowa z kosmosu a druga to wiekszosc straz przyboczna samego krola.No ale mialo wygladac ladnie i byc epicko:)Na tej 1 walce zmiesciles wszystkich vikingow z norwaegii,szwecji,danii.Abo sie myle,to sorka:P

Seems there was little in the way of tactics; the armor of the Vikings seems to have won the day. Holding the heavy axemen in reserve until most of the Irish missiles were spent was brilliant, though.

Poor use of cavalry.

The cavalry was almost useless since the battle was so massive, there was no room to maneuver
