I made this video after trying to find information on adjusting the Corrector plate for Hyperstar. There is some information but I figured I would show you. I hope this will help people out.
NOTE: Moving the corrector plate will change the secondary mirror, that means you will have to collimate the secondary mirror when reinstalled,

Thanks man... this saved me a month of "dammit I didn't center the plate right!"

Thanks for making this as I think I need to do this as well. I just sent some pics of collimation to Dean. - Cheers Kurt

Great video! What does the inner white ring represent? The second one is the corrector plate centering (I guess).

hello, after removing the screws for collimating the plate, which tool do you use to make the adjustments? Phillips or slotted screwdriver? or an allen? thank you

This was a great find! Thanks... I like the idea of using the iPad camera. Not sure I can do that but I might be able to use my iPhone.

Curious whether this procedure is also valid for non-Hyperstar imaging. Would appreciate if folks could weigh in.

Great video, I am trying to mimic your technique on aligning the corrector plate on my C1400 DX. My question is how did you know where to place your IPAD and tripod spatially in relation to the primary mirror? I am found that by moving my camera on my tripod I can make the circles perfectly concentric by slightly moving the tablet around. So how did you find true center between the exact middle of the primary mirror and he middle of the camera eye? Did you use a laser? Once I understand how precisely alight the camera eye on the tablet with the exact middle of the primary mirror I can complete my adjustment. Thanks! Koinonos San Tan Valley, AZ

My first attempt at this went pretty well. I ended up using a collimation laser to help center my tablet to the center of focus for the internal ring to get everything centered. Then once I had the ring centered I collimated the outer ring. Thank you for the informative video!

how did you ensure that your ipad was aligned well with the SCT? if it was a little crooked the circles would look uncentered even if they really arent.

I know this is an old comment, but I'm replying to help others in the future that might read it. To align the iPad/camera up, align the camera so the hole where the secondary mirror goes is aligned perfectly in the center of the first circle you see. If your corrector plate is perfectly aligned, that circle should be perfectly in the middle of the next circle you see. If it's not in the middle of that circle, then you adjust your plate until it is.

Right but I was asking was how do you insure the scope and the camera are aligned. The plate can be centered ready but if the camera is looking at it from an angle the circles will not be concentric.

@@regp5 Using this method will always have a margin of error with it, that should just be assumed. This method allows you to get it "close enough" that the end results will only be marginally worse than getting it "perfect". If you're after perfection, this method isn't the right way to go about it.

I know you've probably figured this out by now... but for others who might be interested... I used a webcam on a tripod... i leveled both the camera and the telescope, with the telescope pointed directly at the camera as best i could... I measured the distance from the floor to the center of the secondary before removing it, and set my camera at that height, re-leveled (everything so slow and careful)... i used the hand control to very slowly move the telescope until i had the center "white" ring, well, centered (according to calipers held to my screen as he showed)... my camera app doesn't have a zoom feature, so I had the camera set about 18 inches in front of the scope... he showed his camera covered by a piece of white paper... this is important, it helps to create strong contrast between the black and white rings... I used two sided tape to attach a piece of sketchpad paper to the camera... I found that the lighting in my room created halo effects around the metal parts, so i put a flashlight on top of the scope and pointed it at the camera... this created strong contrast between the rings and allowed for clear differentiation... after making very slight moves of the corrector plate I used the hand control and calipers to recenter the inside white ring... setup for this took much longer than actually making the adjustment... all told about 2 minutes to make the actual adjustment and an hour to set up careful....

For those that have QHY 10/12 I hope you never have to spend the time I did trying to get a flat field of stars. For QHY12 camera you HAVE to add the tilt adapter in order to get the correct spacing for back focus. This is not stated any place on Starizona or QHY that I have found yet. So I am informing you now.
