Excellent job on your video, exactly what I needed to fix my truck. Replaced all hinge pins, and bushings and Checked Link Roller is still sagging. Thanks for sharing your knowledge with others.

Great video! I searched for hidden bolts on the doors for a while before realizing there wasn't any, what a stupid idea!
@fixitmann66854 жыл бұрын
You got it, you CAN drill out the "hidden" welds holding the hinges on, but they are also GLUED on, so good luck with that, without damaging the thin metal they attach to... Very poor design, I mean who doesn't bolt hinges on so they can be replaced when worn?

Thanks for the info! 06 Silverado driver door misaligned, that floor jack trick will really save some time! Also the weather seal is an issue too. I'll try the 2x4 trick and see how it goes. Thanks again

How did it work for you?? I’ve done this on cars at a used car lot I used to work at and it worked, but not on my gmt 800. I’m thinking of doing this in the next 20 minutes

I have lots of trouble with my 99 2500 passenger door alignment. New pins/bushings didn't do it. I finally figured out its because my co-worker is 315lbs and uses the door as leverage to hoist his weight into the front seat. It took brute force to bend the hinge brackets back.

Also, you said the door was replaced. Do you know why it was replaced? Was the truck in an accident? If so, then there is other issues with the hinges that are causing it to be out of alignment, like the A-Pillar was probably hit in the accident and bent out of proper place. I've seen this happen on some trucks/cars. I did some work on a car that the guy was backing up and his wife decided she wanted to exit the vehicle , opened the door and hit another parked car, which pealed the door back, or another where the guy was parked on the side of the road and some one hit his door while it was open. The post needs to be adjusted after an impact in order to allow the doors to align properly. Jacking the door up stresses the metal on the front edge of the door.

What happens is the door hinge opening that the pins go into get worn. That makes the door sag. The proper way is to make bushings that you install into the hinge opening. It was to be big enuf to hold your pins and narrow enuf to hammer into the opening. Thats the proper way to fix it. Other than take the welded hinges off god forbid.

how did it get that far off in the first place? just wondering, because a non original door can/will need readjusting

When you replaced the hinge pins and bushings, did you use OEM parts? Simply replacing the pin and bushings with aftermarket parts doesn't always work because they use cheap plastic or nylon bushings. The doors are too heavy and the non-metal bushings give under the pressure. Use OEM parts since they are made with the right sized holes in the proper metal.

Plastic and nylon? Every bushing kit for Chevrolet that I've seen are brass.
@valrossi95653 жыл бұрын
@@punktalley Believe me, I've been around these for a while, and there are Chinese crap hinges that have nylon and plastic bushings inside of them, and if you don't know how to spot it, you can think it is proper, but it is inferior.

Why do you want to replace the hinges? They are virtually indestructible by time alone, unless you were in a collision. Replace the pin and bushings. Oh, I just noticed this was posted two years ago, so I'm sure you already fixed the hinge pins.

tried this on my 89 Silverado all it did was lift the entire truck up never changed the door position an inch

Because this is not the proper way to fix a sagging door on this type of hinge.

@@jmackinjersey1 It is if the door frame is bent from an accident and the repair did not address that issue.

my door is level and has good gaps but it rattles .
@jmackinjersey16 жыл бұрын
It is probably something inside the door. Try taking the panel off and looking down, inside the door and seeing if there are any small pieces in there. A lot of times the plastic clips that hold the wires or other parts to the door get hot and cold and snap off. Other times, the plastic clips that hold the door panel on to the door either come loose or snap off and the door panel will rattle. Or are you saying that the door rattles because it doesn't shut all the way?
@jmackinjersey16 жыл бұрын
Why don't you simply replace the hinge pin and the brass bushings? There isn't any need to bend the frame of the door, since the hinges will align once the new pieces are in place.
@dmur6126 жыл бұрын
Jeremiah Mckenna Actually, he did replace the hinge hardware just like I did and the door still wasn't aligned properly. I'm not an automotive body tech but I just can't believe how they build these vehicles these days. It never occurred to me that door alignment would be adjusted this way, but the tool he posted near the beginning of the video is legit. That IS technically how they're adjusted.
@jmackinjersey16 жыл бұрын
I wonder if he used OEM or aftermarket pin kits? Many of the aftermarket kits don't make their bushings the same size, or sometimes they use nylon instead of metal. The nylon bushings tend to give under the pressure of the doors.
@MrFuchew5 жыл бұрын
I replaced mine, bushings were brass. Still sagging. I may try this if i cant figure out anything else
@fixitmann66854 жыл бұрын
If the frame is bent, or the replacement door was slightly different than the original, or the hinges were'n't welded on in the same place, that won't help at all. He tried that, it didn't help, the hinges had no play, it was that the door didn't line up properly. Remember, this door had been replaced before, not original.
