Thanks be to God. The following is his wisdom passed onto me. My wheelchair was bought from Walgreens. It is a manual style wheelchair. It holds 300lb weight capacity. The caster stem bolt is larger on mine than most people's. That is why I had to use a 5/8" metal split lock washer as described below, bought from lowes. 1. Underneath the bottom bearings of the caster housing, place a split lock washer on the caster stem bolt. It will press up into the bottom half of the lower bearings on the caster housing. What I thing the split lock washer does is help to keep the caster stem bolt a little more still. It adds more stability to this certain project. 2. Between the spacing around the top bearings on the caster housing, and the caster stem bolt, cut paperclips into horse shoes. Take the paper clip and cut it in the middle. There will be several pieces, keep the two largest pieces and discard the rest. The paperclips were bought from a homeland grocery store. It showed on the packaging that the paperclips are [NO.1]. When I bought the paperclips at homeland there were only 2 choices; jumbo and the ones I bought. When inserting the paperclips, you are essentially filling the gaps between the caster stem bolt and the bearings. Just make sure that the paper clips do no go above the top of the bearing because if you do you won't be able to tighten the nut onto the caster stem bolt. The lest play there is with the caster stem bolt, the less fluttering of the caster wheels there will be. So, be sure that you get the caster stem bolt as tight with the paperclips as you possibly can. The paperclips are a mere filler, you can use anything really, just as long as the caster stem bolt will not wiggle around. I can comfortably roll about 10mph, maybe more, I'm not sure, got to build my stamina up though. But, I know my speeds though and I was able to successfully push 10mph down the sidewalk easily, not to brag, just so you get a good visual reference, and not a single fluttering. Additionally, I superglue [loctite professional, blue bottle] bicycle tread to the top of all my wheels. This greatly assists in many different ways as well. God gave me the knowledge and I felt the need to share. Additionally, I replace my bearings, all except the caster wheels. Yahoo Mail: Search, Organize, Conquer

This has been a great help, I've just picked up a newish RGK Hi-Lite Titanium and the castor flutter was horrendous, but thanks to this video I can now do parkrun in it. Thanks so much. 😁

Someone gave me a new wheelchair. It has 2 horrible casters. Both front casters get stuck. I don't know whether something is broken or they were put on incorrectly. I am hurting my arms and shoulders and back. Is this something I can fix? Thank you in advance for your advice.

Take the Chair to an Industrial Supply to get the correct bearings in the first place. Bearings need to be a thrust loaded bearing,, when its on it's side when used as a caster application, where the bearing race is ground with face tilted to carry a heavy load when bearing is laying on it's side. Bearings don't like to be pounded on,, on their side,, this puts golf ball dents in the balls,, and can jam the bearing. Second - They need to be a certified sealed bearing,, close as possible to water-proof. This will now give bearings just a slight drag un-noticed, but last twenty years or more, and never need lube. Now main bolt will need very little tension, but should be lock nut design, to keep from coming loose. Nylock is common. *Not shielded bearings, these are made only with a metal dust cover, and cannot hold lubricant, and are not waterproof. If one has a good set of Dial Calipers,, one could pre-size what bearings should be used. Or if code can be accessed that's stamped on side of bearing, then you have it made to up-grade looking at bearing listings catalog. The initial original code on bearing will show what the dimensions are in the catalog, then search categories with the three basic dimensions. Maybe easier to call chair supplier to get bearing code that they are using for that model. But if one gets stuck on the process,, give me a holler, and we'll get to it. In the mean time,, look up your nearest industrial supplier. They are the coolest people to meet. And cost of these basic parts should be ten times cheaper as well, then heading to wheel chair store. At 67,, pretty darn difficult to fool a farmer now, and won't end well trying. Cheers

How to adjust wheel wobble on Aki wheelchair

Caster Shimmy is also caused by - if everything is perfect - by the chairs angle at caster pivot. Rear wheels moved to different mountings holes, changing caster angle. Too much negative/positive caster angle will cause a caster to shimmy. With bubble level set against front of caster mounting tube, move level to true level to see how much gap there is at the bottom. As one can easily see - caster mounts in this video are tilted quite a bit to the rear at bottom of tube mount. When rear wheels touch the floor, this angle will be less. Just noticed this guys video - he explains issue of caster angle in very simple example in first minute. kzbin.info/www/bejne/g5_bhZp-is6FoKs Cheers

Why is one of my caster tires being rubbed by the fork and how can I fix it? How can only one side be so out of alignment?
@againstit224 Жыл бұрын
Either the bearings are worn out, the axle shaft is worn or bent, or the fork holes may be wallowed out or the fork may be bent. Or the casters may be worn out if the bearings have been bad and someone kept using the chair.

So what's the fix? All my wheel chairs do this even when new. I can't stand it!

@@philipduncan8636 I know, its ridiculous that no one has come up with a dampener small enough for caster wheels.
