This is surely the best video explanation on how a sewing machine works. I hunted all over youtube and finally found this. You have a thorough understanding as well as the capability to explain things the way people can grasp. Ideal quality for a university professor. Thank you.

I also have a Dress Maker SS-2402. My adjustment part looks just a little different. It was cracked and when I tried to adjust it the cast iron broke. I am really having a hard time finding a replacement - any clues?? Thanks!

Hello there. I am not quite sure if it is the shaft which broke, or the machine body. The machines are quite brittle. If you have access to a welder, you might be able to achieve an excellent repair. Mechanics and schools have welders if you have access to these. Another option is JB Weld or equivalent metal epoxy which works quite well for some types of parts. A third option is to take the dimensions of the part and look out for a similar part -- many of these machines are clones and share partts. Each manufacturer changes some parts to make their machine stand out. The underside of the machines are usually generic except for the feed dog drop which tends to be different on each machine. If you look for a parted out Japanese machine, you migh find one that fits. Let me know if that helps.

@@jamesrogers991 James! I found the part, the seller on ebay described it as a "knuckle" - perfect fit and that was the beginning of helping this machine perform so wonderfully. Your video though will help me tune the feed dogs perfectly - thank you. The stitch regulator was a bit "off" - a good stitch at 5, 4 and 3 1/2 but at 3 made very small stitches. I adjusted the part with the two brass bolts on the top as it appeared that piece was operated by the stitch control. Any insight on that part would be greatly appreciated. This Dressmaker is a really wonderful piece of engineering! Thank you! Bill
