@@GettinStitchy I don't think a ruffle foot would work this machine, right?
@GettinStitchy Жыл бұрын
If that's a stitching sideways kind of foot, then no. I've seen a lot of youtube sewists show hacks to make gathers on old straight stitch machines, but I haven't tried any of that myself.

This was so helpful! Because of your video, I discovered the arrow indicator on my presser foot pressure gauge! It’s very hard to see on my machine, but it’s there, and now I know!! Thank you!

Thanks for posting this. I used my walking foot and didn't think to adjust my presser foot pressure. Pretty much a first time user of this particular machine. I went looking for an answer about the walking foot and then as I went through the manual I saw this presser foot pressure and looked for that info. And, here you have it. Thanks loads. Good luck with your KZbin channel.

Great videos. I am looking for a walking foot with a seam guide for this machine. Do you know if there is one? Do you know what the seam guide is used for on this machine? I have never seen anyone demonstrate it.
@GettinStitchy2 жыл бұрын
Eventually I'll make videos on both of those parts. I've seen the seam guide used in a video for a different machine, but yeah there's not a lot that kind of content around. Thanks for watching!

I have (and love) this machine. When you mentioned using it for binding a quilt, did you use the walking foot? I've been having trouble keeping the layers moving at the same pace. I've adjusted the foot pressure up...down...middle and still no better. I will try again without the walking foot but wondered what your experience was.
@GettinStitchy Жыл бұрын
Hi Kathy. I rarely ever use the walking foot. Mostly just hate installing it because it's so fiddly to attach it to the needle screw. So all binding is with a regular straight stitch foot. Best thing I've found is to make sure I've done the "victory lap" before starting to attach the binding. It's not always perfect and sometimes I get an occasional pucker nonetheless from a combo of border bias and shifting layers. I think on anything truly for a high competition show or meant to be seriously heirloom, I would take the time to starch the backing all the way before quilting, use Pellon wonderweb to iron fuse the layers together, and really starch the borders on the top at a minimum if not the whole top. And by starch, like potentially mix some dry pellet starch to high concentration in a sink or plastic tub and dunk and wring out the fabric and then iron dry after hanging or laying out the fabric for a good 15-20 minutes. Makes anything fabric more like paper and there won't be any bias to mess things up. But that's me. I've heard of people using a walking foot to bind, but it's not my style. I guess if everything is quilted (like maybe you sent it off to a longarmer), then maybe you could slip pieces of the wonder web between the layers on edge areas not quilted down, fuse, and see if that helps. Good luck.

Great information, just bought this machine. Could you address thread tension? Ty
@GettinStitchy2 жыл бұрын
Hello. I don't have any near future plans to cover that topic. If you haven't already cut the piece they sample stitched in the factory, I would suggest writing "top" on the top side and keep that wherever you keep your accessories for the machine (I use a pencil box like the elementary kids use for school). The reason to do that is so you can always know what the tension on both sides is supposed to look, especially if you start changing out the weights of your threads or shift to a metallic thread on a project (metallics need top tension set very low, either that or use the metallic in the bobbin and stitch the piece upside down). Good luck with the machine.

I have the Nouvelle 1500s and the feed dogs don’t change when I change the setting, and definitely don’t drop when that settings chosen. Not sure what to do!
@GettinStitchy Жыл бұрын
That's interesting. I always thought the Novelle was just an earlier branding of the PQ1500SL. Not sure what you need to do although if it's a malfunctioning mechanism from that feed dog setting dial, then it sounds like it need to be serviced by a decent sewing machine repair person. Good luck!

@@GettinStitchy do you have any tips about the thread cutter? I find it unthreads the needle when I use it :( i will find a repair person asap
@GettinStitchy Жыл бұрын
@@CocoYazmin07 While I rarely ever use the thread cutter because it cuts the bobbin thread way too short for my comfort, I found that if I hit the button with the presser foot was up, that would unthread the needle. I think that is because the tension discs aren't activated when the presser foot is up.

How do I fix the feed dogs when they are in the up position but won't move the fabric?
@GettinStitchy2 жыл бұрын
Hi Suzanne. First, I would try one of the other settings where the feed dogs are up to see if it's just that one setting. If none of the settings are advancing the piece along the bed of the machine, then I would unscrew the base plate and see if I need to do a cleaning. Also, good to see if something might be jamming the mechanisms in that area that could be removed. If all of that fails, then I would take the machine with either a general sewing machine repair person or a Brother dealer with a repair person on staff. Given the value of this machine it would be worth paying a pro who can dig deeper into the problem. Good luck finding a solution to your issue! Thanks for watching.
