Adjusting the Side Car Toe In on a Ural Gear Up

My Ural is pulling hard to the right. There are two adjustments you can easily make at home to help compensate for this. The side car tire and the bike need to be aligned in order for it to move straight without a lot of input from the driver.

Hi, i have a bought new 2016 GU, and fortunitally never needed a alienment. however i did check the bike just to learn how. i bought two 8 foot floresent light bulbs as they are cheap and very stright. zip tie to the wheels on both sides and rest the front on a wood block. my measurement was spot on and has never needed adjustment. good luck you will certainly get where you need it eventually.

Thanks for the comment. I may try getting a propter number on it once I think it’s aligned where I like it just to see how close to factory spec it ends up.

Hello I have been running with a sidecar rig for 2 years now and I can say this there has been a lot of tweaking on it to get the bike to ride correct for me . I can set up for around town or set it up for highway speed. But it is impossible to have both ...my 2 cents .. thanks

Thanks for the information. I’m noticing the same thing. It seems the crown on different roads really effects its performance.

I've added a light, homemade, right sidecar to my Yamaha FZ6R. I've followed all the standard lean-out and toe-in, and my tricycle tracks true. But when I apply the brakes (either front or rear or both) the rig tends to pull left. I figure the sidecar, although very light, wants to pivot the bike to the left, and that the only solution would be a brake on the third wheel. Any explanation or suggestion?

I agree with you. The side car will drag under acceleration and its momentum will try to keep it moving when the brakes on the bike are applied. A brake on the side car would definitely help even out slowing. I just have to remember to use the rear brake mostly since mine has the sidecar brake connected there. Acceleration is a little harder. When mine has both rear wheels locked together, it accelerates straight but when in one wheel drive, it does pull right some. As far as I know, the only ways to minimize this is two wheel drive or making the side car as light as possible and it sounds like you did. Making sure the sidecar tire is fully inflated will also minimize the pull. I’m sure you’ve already made sure of that. Thanks for the comments. It sounds like you’re setting up a great rig!
