Congrats on the new skates! If you can find or borrow a rachet you can adjust the wheels with that, or maybe go to local rink, skate park or skate shop to borrow a tool from another roller skater or skate boarder🤗

You have no idea how much your video has clarified and helped me with understanding how and why you adjust ur skates. I'm pretty much a beginner I use to skate many years ago. I just got my Moxi Lolly's and I couldn't understand why my wheels (Gummys) felt like they were getting away from me😳 they were moving far more faster than I wanted and I felt like I had no control. I thought I needed to get different wheels to slow down since I'm still learning. Someone recommended that I tighten my wheels. So just to get a second opinion I found ur video and you confirmed and showed me how😉 Thank you so much!! I feel more confident about my skates now.

this is the #1 reason a lot of beginner skaters QUIT immediately, because they don’t understand about adjusting skates! This is how I got my current pair of VNLA’s lol, whomever owned them before didn’t know much about adjusting… they were mad tight, and almost like new.

Yes, tight trucks can make it harder to turn! Adjusting trucks to your liking can make a big difference🤗

Looser trucks are easier to turn/steer but less stable, tighter trucks take more effort to turn/steer but feel more stable. It all depends on what kind of skating you are into and your preference!😃

These are VNLA Juniors, I use them for jam skating since they are made for ankle mobility and dancing. For park and street I use another set up with ankle support😃

Just have a quick question you might know, I have on order some Bont park skates with the tracer plate and was wondering do I need to have a box wrench in addition to the 3Y skate tool to loosen the trucks, as I am not sure from the pics of the tracer plate if it has a locknut right at the bottom that I have to loosen first before using the skatetool on the top kingpin nut? Thank you! Yes there is a locknut on the trucks of Bont Tracer plates so you will need a 14mm box wrench or 14mm socket of rachet to adjust them, also an allen wrench to adjust toe stop😄

Maybe ask someone who has a battery powered impact with socket that fits axle nut to help, also may need vice to hold skate stable

Try taking the wheels off with the Y tool then using wrench on the trucks 🤗

I just got the exact same VNLA zona roses like you in the box a couple days ago. The wheels don’t spin freely like yours and I have the bearings they came with, should I change them out to bones reds? I have those on my old nitro skates & they spin freely like yours in the video. I’m not sure if the standard VNLA bearings just suck but I’ve loosened them and they still don’t spin freely. I think I like super tight trucks as well because I skated on them right out of the box and it felt like my feet were pulling all sorts of directions and it felt super loose and wobbly which I didn’t like, and I jam skate and it still didn’t feel right being so loose.

You could try putting a little speed cream in them but if they still don't spin freely then I would replace them, love my Bones Reds!

Yes, it's a good idea to bring a skate tool when you skate! I like tighter trucks but don't tighten so much that the bushings are getting crushed

Hello, would you agree that no matter how loose you make the trucks the last washer (retaining cup) should still be in contact with the cushion? In order to get my daughter's skates (Decathlon) to actually turn I've had to loosen them such that what little turning there is is down to the play in the truck. This doesn't seem right to me! I was interested that you said there were softer replacement cushions, thanks, I'll have to investigate!

Yes, totally agree! Don't know how hard those are but Sure Grip and Powerdyne make different durometer cushions/bushings to check into🤗

Try changing the bearings first to see if that helps, you can buy decent bearings from a local rink or skate shop if possible! We love Bones Reds but there are lots of good ones. If you tighten the wheels more they will spin more slowly, also softer wheels are slower than harder wheels🤗

you can tighten so that the wheel spins more slowly but not so that it compresses the bearings, it is something you feel!

I have the exact same skates as you and when I loosen my trucks the bolt almost comes off. I thought this wasn’t normal so I adjusted them as tight as possible and it really doesn’t thread down to have about 3 spaces on the thread maybe one at the most. I feel like that plug thing is so short did you change yours? Sorry trying to explain but I know I’m not using the right words. Thanks!

I didnt change the kingpins which are the metal threaded pieces the trucks go on, maybe it is a difference from the factory? But you can look for thinner cushions/bushings which are the urethane pieces on either side of the trucks which might help with adjustments, hope that makes sense!🤗

Often trucks are too loose or too tight on new skates so it's best to check all trucks and adjust them as needed. It could also be a bolt loose that holds boots to plates, i once had one come loose so it's best to check and make sure they are all tight!

Often new skates need to be adjusted, on one side the trucks or wheels may be too loose or too tight! It's a good idea to check wheels and trucks and make any adjustments so that they are even and feel best for your preference🤗

Do your wheels spin freely? If not then they need to be loosened, you want them to spin free but not slide around on the axle :)

Hi, thanks so much for the video. I just bought new roller skates today and am finding my left skate pulls inwards when I am skating, and when I skate the lefr foot almost has a resistance to going outwards. If I go down a hill and have both feet facing forward the left one will just pull right in, do you know what may be causing that? I hired skates last year and it never happened then or when i was younger. Thanks :)

Thanks for watching! If they are new skates it is a good idea to check the trucks to make sure they are adjusted evenly and to your liking, and also make sure the wheels are not too tight or loose. It often takes a little time and adjusting with new skates!🤗

Thanks heaps for the reply. I tried adjusting everything and even swapping thing around with no luck. The stockist has told me it's an issue with my left foot which has never been an issue with my old skates years ago or with hire skates at the skate rink. I have just noticed that the right plate sits 3.5mm closer to the inner arch compared to the left skate :( do you know if this would cause an issue? Sorry for taking your time up I'm just super disappointed and want to fix them so bad! Thanks.

Sorry to hear that! I doubt it is fault of your foot if other skates dont do this. Sounds like your plates or at least one of them may not be well mounted, especially since you noticed they are not even and have already tried adjusting trucks and wheels. I would look for a local skate shop or rink to see if they can be re-mounted correctly, hope that helps!

Is it safe/okay to hear and feel a little give when you pick your skate up? I have been skating with my wheels too tight before now, I just loosened them like you said! But I can hear the skate much louder when I push off and I can hear the wheels "clicking" ? Not sure if this is good or if this is normal?

Hearing bearings clicking or whirring is pretty normal! The bearings on the jam skates i demo on in this video are Bones Reds and they are so quiet but they are on indoor skates, my outdoor bearings are noisier! If they get too noisy a couple drops of bearing lube helps a lot, i like Bones speed cream😃

Not sure what kind of wheels and bearings are on those but you can first try adjusting them in case they are too tight or too loose. If that does not fix it then you may want to use some bearing lubricant, we like Bones Speed Cream which works great! Or replace the bearings if need be, Bones Reds are excellent bearings that are not expensive or whatever decent bearings you can find at a local skate shop :)

I'm kinda freaking out right now because my skates are rattling and I just cleaned the wheels and bearings so I don't know if this is normal or not because it was my first time cleaning them so if anyone knows if there might be something wrong that would be very much appreciated.

Check that the bearings are totally seated in the wheels, we like to tighten the nut all the way down making sure the bearings are tight in the wheels then back off gradually with the nut till the wheels spin freely. Also adding a drop or two of bearing lube helps if they are making noise due to being dry. Check our video on how to clean bearings for more, hope that helps!😄

You speak of the cushions as though they are seperate to the action. Cushions are NOT for "suspension". The cushions are your action. You should select cushions that only require a 1/4 to 1/2 a turn max from finger tight.

This is a great video, but the camera man kind of killed the vibe. She was doing great, and the video was really good- her connection to the audience was good-- then the camera man broke in and the whole vibe changed. It became about her checking in with him, rather than talking to her audience. Dude should have kept silent. If he wanted to run the video he should have been the one making the video. It was some what painful to watch as after that, with the dude behind the camera dominating the video.
