had this on vhs in 1996, nobody was into r&b except me so i'd get home from school and play this and just soak up all the knowledge bombs they were dropping. Every note every lyric they were such an inspiration to me - I was so shy but wanted to sing - entered a music comp that year, got 1st place

Listen, imma put it to youy all like this. For Boyz II Men to even be compared to Take 6 is an honor. But for these guys to sound the way they do with only 4 members, don't you think that Boyz II Men would have the upper hand? Not to impede the talent of Take 6 but HELLO 6 against 4 and NOW 3. Boyz II Men all day!!!
@keepitreal14673 жыл бұрын
Totally agree bro. 4 part harmonies a lot harder to sound full as a 6

Only two Star Spangled Banners give me chills. This one and Whitney Houston's. They're so crazy good. Best R&B Group of all time, hands down.

Wow. In 2 minutes my impression of B2M went from 'They're a good a capella and pop group, but there are better' to 'They are good, decent human beings, who care about their music, and who don't just let money and success cloud their vision'. I guess i need to go listen to more of their stuff now.

NATE IS THAT GUY YA HEARD!!!! “… ohhh say does thaAAaAat staar spaangled, baaanner yeEet waaaaaaAAaAaaAAAaaaaaaave…”!!! And the way he finds those pockets to do those tasteful riffs is GENIUS!!!! Of course Shawn Wan and Mike are crazy too. But I think cats slept on Nate too much… he might actually like being the secret weapon tho.👑👑👑👑💯✊🏿

OMG!!!!!!!! I got this video for christmas YEARS ago when I was a child and I screamed like a crazy person. I have no idea where it is now, my babies probably ruined it, but this was one of my fav parts on the cassette.

Like are you serious!?! Anybody who denies these guys as the best male group in the past 30 years has GOT to be crazy. There is nor hasn't been a group since Boyz II Men came out in 91' that can even come CLOSE to touching their harmonies. This was just sick!

You can't compare 6 part harmony (Take 6) vs 4 part. Take 6s harmony structure is far more complex and difficult to pull off yet they are masters of doing so. Apples and oranges dude. Both are good but Take 6 does it for me in terms of "Holy shit, how'd they come up with those harmonies!" factor

part of it can be excused because theres less people singing but like i know some stuff about music and all that and these guys have amazing voices but as far as the arrangement and the chords that are used and all the dissonance and just incredibly creative genius type stuff, take 6's version puts boyz ii men to shame. go watch take 6's version of the star spangled banner if you havent already. i feel like as far as the arrangement i couldve arranged the boyz ii men version. take 6 is amazing
@451600813 жыл бұрын
Where did they sing this? Was it in their hometown of Philadelphia? (I'm assuming their old high school)?
@livingeternity12 жыл бұрын
as far as technical ability goes...the repertoire that take 6 does is infinitely harder. not to slag these arrangements by the boyz because they are great but the harmonies are quite simple. even comparable to barbershop harmony with a gospel voice. take 6 infuses dense chord voicings associated with jazz. ask any trained musician which is harder and 9 times out of 10 theyll say take 6
@yawotton6 жыл бұрын
livingeternity I agree with the technical input you said... But you can't beat just simple flat foot harmony.. barbershop or not this was smooth... especially towards the end... All the minor chords take 6 was doing was impressive but naaaaaa... I like flat mostly Major chord harmony
@paulbismuth104 жыл бұрын
It's not comparable. 2 types of harmonies, one is jazzy and gospel the other is more barber shop/RnB. It's a question of taste. For me it's BIIM (i always fall for their magical blending harmonies) but i can listen to Take 6 everyday. Their rendition of the star spangled banner are both so original. 👌
@Theonlysun11 жыл бұрын
Take 6 are mentors to boyz 2 men. I'm sure while you're viewing this with a tiny mind, the artist could care less.They both are very good, although neither wrote the song.

WHO?! J/J, they're a very good harmonizing group as well. The only thing is that they never had the really huge hits nor the Babyfaces or Jimmy Jam/Terry Lewis songwriters so they will rarely ever be mentioned in the same breath. Good group though.
