Pretty sure a general is homies with the the guys at sig. makes 0 sense considering the SPEAR is also a piston system, but has an inferior rail and barrel retainment, not to mention OVERINSERTION when you give the magazine a tap which is a standard part of a reload drill. If its operational familiarity, there are AR style lowers for SCARs that take AR triggers and AR10 Magazines. FN also makes the SCAR in multiple chamberings like 6.5 creedmoor so im sure they do the same for 6.8, also considering the upper is monolithic, the handguard and barrel issue wont really be a thing for the SCAR, and i bet it would be even more robust than the SPEAR

SCAR 17S owner here. Change your gas jet! It's a $5 part & takes 5 minutes to change. If your abilities are good enough, doing a simple trigger job with your Kentucky stone is worth the time. @Doublezzranch3 ай бұрын
@bigjoetheelectrician : If your brass gets ejected ridiculously far away from you, it's over gassed. The 17s comes over gassed. I changed mine from factory 1.50mm to a 1.30mm & I get a perfect pile of brass now. I only shoot 150 gran ammo & have zero malfunction. I don't know what your model comes with from the factory so I'm not much help on that. Your trigger must be AWESOME! I'm insulted I spent so much on a rifle that I had to fix/modify to be a proper rifle. I do carry mine every day on my Cattle Ranch to dispatch any predators that come for the animals I have. The folding stock is a huge help in my side by side atv.

It is not just the range. Smaller calibers could not decimate or penetrate the mud brick houses and other covers in the Afghanistan. Something hefty was required overall. This situation hasn't changed to this day by the way. Assault Rifle is not be all end all of infantry weapons. It is a trade-off like most things. Was seriously considering one earlier this year. Went with the B&T APC308 Pro after getting my hands on both. The scar just felt "cheap"... and it cost more. It also needs a few things, like the trigger, upgraded to keep up with the B&T. I still like the Scar, though, and don't blame anyone for wanting and/or buying one.
@handroids19813 ай бұрын
That would be my choice also.

Also considered the B&T…but you lose one of the key scar benefits which is weight. The 16” B&T weighs half a pound more (not an irrelevant amount - and what do you gain?)
@SquallWulfhart2 күн бұрын
@nimarine31500 That's surprising. But the 14.5 is .2lbs heavier and feels substantially better quality. Both are over priced, but the Scar17 feels like it should be $1000 less, at least. But I'm big on nostalgic guns and the S17 is more so than the apc308.

I say it is. I have owned mine for over 12 years now, and it has never once let me down after I have put well over 8k rounds through it. I was able to buy it for $2600 leading up to the 2012 election, I believe, only because it was black and everyone else wanted the 50 shades of FDE version. I put a Geissele Super Scar trigger in it and was shooting sub-MOA groups with Federal Gold Medal Match ammo. I have resisted the urge to modify it with various 3rd pary solutions to problems that don't exist for non-larper regular people, which I think has also enhanced my experience. The only thing I did besides the trigger was experiment with different gas jets early on, which fixed the issue of being over-gassed from the factory. I am now running a Scarburator at position 6 with the factory gas jet, which runs like a dream. It's the best 7.62 rifle I've ever owned, and that has been a lot of what is available. The only thing I think I might try that could steal that throne is the B&T APC 308.

Short answer: fuck no. Long answer: The SCAR platform was designed around a fundamental misunderstanding of the Ultimax, a lightweight LMG famous for having essentially zero recoil. The Ultimax accomolished this through a combination of dwell time, a carefully weighted bolt group, and a hybrid system between open-bolt and short-stroke piston. The SCAR has approximately ONE of these features, and it's not even fully tuned right: dwell time. The most fundamental flaw that knocks the SCAR from "useable" to "objectively bad" is its piston setup. Short-stroke pistons can be configured in a number of ways, with the FAL and AR18 being the usual inspirations for modern designs. Those systems use a Newton's Cradle approach to transferring force to the Carrier, which minimizes movement and weight. The Ultimax has an operating rod connected directly to the Carrier, which interfaces with the piston. This is the same design that the SCAR copies. Why is the piston setup important? Simple! Your supporting/weak hand is the most sensitive to fluctuations in the center of mass due to being extended away from the body. Any moving parts above that hand will make recoil feel worse, with that effect being amplified with more movement. This is largely what spawned the myth of the AK being inaccurate; on top of the long-stroke piston needing to be over-gassed to overcome manufacturing inconsistencies, the sheer amount of metal moving above the supporting hand makes it much harder to control. The Ultimax solved this by tuning the entire gun around the fact that it is an open-bolt LMG. Once the bolt goes forward, a round is immediately fired, balancing the forces. The SCAR, meanwhile, is a rifle. The split second between trigger pulls is enough to rattle the entire gun and send your aiming point to the next county. It is ass. People just don't want to admit it because it's the CoD dream gun, and it costs over $4k. An AR10, meanwhile, was designed explicitly around mitigating the recoil of rifles in as lightweight a syatem as possible. The gas is ported directly behind the barrel, reducing the moving parts above the barrel to a grand total of zero. The bolt group acting as a piston keeps all the forces in line with the barrel, reducing flip-up. The buffer tube can be swapped out for ones of different weights, so as to tune the cycling rate to an acceptable level. The gigantic spring is, well, a gigantic spring. To this day, the AR10 is the only firearm that makes 30cal feel like 9mm. Use it over overpriced scrap.

This actually reads like AI generated nothing burger, and has exactly zero correlation to my, and many others real world experience with the 17. Unless you get one that is horrifically over gassed (or strap a high back pressure can to it and don't tune down the gas in one of a few fairly simple ways), there's nothing about its recoil impulse that could even be remotely described as 'ass'...not for an 8 pound semi auto in .308. The average 17, or even one with a clapped out recoil spring in need of swapping from being used and abused as a range rental for years, has less felt recoil and muzzle rise than all but the best gassed 7.62x39 AK's, even with brakes / cans on both. It's also notably lower recoil than G3 variants/clones, the SIG SPEAR in both .308 and 6.8, and even many stock AR10 esc. rifles (even if they do have a bit more potential to be lower recoil via tuning just due to DI).

@@soulshot96 Are AK's also famous for cracking the carrier when suppressed and shaking optics to death?
@soulshot96 a SCAR weighs significantly more than an AR10, and only beats the absolute cheapest ones in terms of recoil. $4k for that kind of performance is unacceptable.

220 rounds of .308 produces the same stops as 480 rounds of 5.56. I carry about the same with my SCAR. My POF Rogue can use SR-25 25 round mags, so I have about half and half gives me about250 rounds of .308. That is plenty of firepower if it’s used carefully. Ammoseek for .308 ammo. Got 520 rounds of M80 by Swiss company Saltech for less than $350 delivered.
