Z5U ceramic capacitors are only rated for bypass operation. Learned that in the 60s at Bell Sound.

I love to see the attempts to restore the other chassis, not only we can learn about possible ways of fixing issues, but it is a great lesson that sometimes fixing these old sets might not be economically possible

could there be tin whiskers in that pot? shango's had that problem several times. it shorts the control out intermittently or totally and can be hard to diagnose. he's caught them on camera before but there were a lot of them growing on the control back shell and it was open frame so you could see inside.

Sure, very likely. Seems to be OK since I cleaned it a few days ago. Time will tell.
