Think "prodigal child" as she's the sort to be lead by her heart, not her head; hence she makes profoundly *stupid* decisions regarding romance- in fact, I have a sneaking suspicion that she was in a "civil union" with her lover, Gina, and that only intensifies her anger at her "spouse's" betrayal of all their friends and neighbors- understandable, but wow was she *dumb* to do that in the first place!
