We visited the Nek Chand's Rock Garden at Chandigarh, which is an enchanting garden with a fascinating story! Nek Chand, an Indian government road and transport employee, started this garden secretly as a hobby, illegally on a piece of government land. He collected waste/scrap materials from demolition sites around the city and made sculptures out of it. He was able to hide it for 18 years before it was discovered by the authorities! However, the garden was not destroyed as expected due to numerous protests from the public. It was ultimately officially recognized by the government and developed to a larger scale with Nek Chand as the director! Thousands of people visit this garden now to enjoy beautiful landscapes, man-made waterfalls, over 2000 sculptures, and numerous rock formations that create a fantasy kingdom.
