You don't need 'bars and tones' . A new 'title' item will do the trick. You can save 2-3 additional steps by choosing a title and doing the rest of the steps instead of a 'bars and tones' item.

I use this technique both for video and audio :) Titles don't have audio. But of course for video a title will do if you use the video track for the ripple delete

Hi Tobias, I ussually create a title and do the exact same process... that way you can skip the unlink audio track step since there is no audio track in a title and is a bit faster.... but I also was looking for an easier faster way to do this...

It's so strange that there's no simple way to do this in Premiere. Most tools will have an 'auto collapse' option that will remove the gaps as they edit. Not sure why Adobe decided to leave it out of this one

Great video, but if you just choose "black video" instead of bars and tones, you eliminate one step. Also, you don't have to put the new "ripple layer" on the same layer as your footage in the beginning. :)

Speaking of this: I want to create a fast video of a walking track in Norway. The footage is 17 minutes long. Speeding up the duration makes the video veeery shaky and cutting out random frames Works great, but is very time consuming. Is there a good way to speed up footage like this without adjusting the duration?
@SurfacedStudio7 жыл бұрын

Thank you, and as always very helpful advice. :) In this particular instance, however, I struggled to get it right (maybe it just takes a bit of practice). Eventually I did manage to do it properly, but I found that I needed to lock the audio bar at the bottom to stop it from moving in sync with the video. It worked, which is the main thing. :) By the way, is there a method which allows you to set the length of a large amount default transitions to the same amount of time, e.g. 1.5 seconds? Thanks. :)
@SurfacedStudio8 жыл бұрын
Hi, I don't think you can alter the duration of a set of transitions after you have applied them. You can however, simply set your default transition and length before you start applying them :)

Avoid that in the first place with the "ripple edit to next (or previous) playhead" keyboard shortcut. I've mapped mine to the [ and ] keys. When I click the [ key, it deletes everything between the playhead and the previous edit point and ripples.
@SurfacedStudio9 жыл бұрын
+Sam Comer Hi, thanks for the tip, but that doesn't work for me when I'm dealing with one very large video clip without cuts to begin with as it'll either delete the entire front or the tail of the video from the current play head position. Do you have a way to actually extract bits and pieces out of a single long clip using only those actions?
@hawksoob9 жыл бұрын
+Surfaced Studio Maybe in not fully understanding the workflow here. But another option is one you actually said - "extract." Set an in and out point around what you want deleted and click the Extract button under the program monitor. It will ripple delete the selection.
@SurfacedStudio9 жыл бұрын
Yes, but if I have 100-1000 clips I want to extract, that is going to be a nightmare as each single 'extract' would take quite a few steps. I usually let my video/VO play through / scrub and cut where need, then delete the clips before the edit point. This leaves me with a long sequence with plenty of gaps - hence my need to ripple delete all gaps :)
@hawksoob9 жыл бұрын
+Surfaced Studio Starting with one lone clip, though, correct? What I do in that situation is go down the timeline, make an edit where I want the next edit to be (keyboard shortcut mapped to the forward slash key - I think it's control or command k by default, but easier with just a single keystroke). Then play on to the point where I want the next clip to start and hit the [ key (as mentioned above) and it will ripple delete everything between that point and the previous edit point. You can even do it in real time as it plays ... Make edit, ripple delete to play head, right on down the line as it plays.
@hawksoob9 жыл бұрын
+Sam Comer It's the Q and W keys by default, actually.

Yes, here is a screenshot: drive.google.com/open?id=0B6FMqo2-ia_EbndpZE5vcnFoV3M You can't tell from the pic, but I made two cuts, selected the part I wanted to delete and then hit "R" which is my shortcut for Ripple Delete. It's been working for a long time, but just stopped. Also (shown in the pic) I clicked in some blank space to try to Ripple Delete that, and you can see the "Ripple Delete" text is faded. I tried different combinations of enabling the tracks on the left, but no help. Thanks for your help.

The infuriating part about all of this is that Adobe doesn't include a simpler method within the software. You can ripple delete an individual segment so it would seem common sense that if, for instance, I pushed command+A or ctr+A to select all, then used the right click>ripple delete, it would automatically ripple delete all. Why should we have to do some ass backwards trick like this to achieve what should be an included feature?
@SurfacedStudio8 жыл бұрын
+Color Bars I think that the original / primary audience for Premiere Pro was never the 'hobbyist' crowd until rather recently. I believe most people use the advanced editing tool I described in my last tutorial to avoid the gaps to begin with. I'd like an automatic option as well, but at least there's workarounds :)
@phant0mdummy8 жыл бұрын
Surfaced Studio Even a professional could find themselves in a position where they would need a grouped ripple delete. In that situation, I prefer to make my selection of cuts, select click the clips that need to go and ripple delete them all that way.
