Otto Adolf Eichmann, better known by his historical designation Adolf Eichmann, was born in Solingen, North Rhine-Westphalia, northwestern Germany, on March 19, 1906. His father, Adolf Karl Eichmann, was the chief of a bookkeeping-oriented Calvinist Protestant household. Young Adolf was thus born into a middle-class family, which was relatively typical for this region of Germany during the height of the Second German Reich, the name given to Germany from the time it was founded in 1871 until its demise at the conclusion of the First World War.
