The U.S. didn't even get along with the soviets during the war, and did nothing but fight each other once the war was over. Germany, on the other hand, had a good relationship with the U.S. prior to Pearl Harbor, and there were tons of German-Americans who wanted the U.S. to join the war on the side of the axis (look up the Bund party for more information). Even the Famous Austrian Painter modelled his government on the U.S. because he admired their "blackbird" policies. ;) If it wasn't for Pearl Harbor, the U.S. would've most likely entered the war alongside the Axis, if at all.

So what were they supposed to do? Just let the Reds march right into eastern Europe, through Poland and Romania, and then into central Europe? That could never be allowed to happen, so it was the Soviets that broke the spirit of the pact made with Germany in August 1939...
