Lovely! What was the occasion and who were the wigged dignitaries?
@samuelcole93853 жыл бұрын
They would’ve been the high powers of the judiciary. They wear wigs like the UK in AUS. Very similar legal system there.

It's from our annual Law Service marking the opening of the law term. Members of the judiciary and legal profession all have specific robes and wigs which they wear.

@@TheGreatSynagogueSydney interesting and Impressive. Jewish members only, or are all members of the judiciary invited?
@TheGreatSynagogueSydney3 жыл бұрын
@@jon_co All members, as well as Jewish and non-Jewish members of government and others.

It's the Jewish community law service - held at the beginning of the law term in New South Wales, Australia. The wigged dignitaries are members of the Australian judiciary - High Court judges, solicitors, barristers, magistrates, former members of the senior levels of the judiciary. It confirms the devotion of the Jewish community to impartial law and justice for all Australians - of all faiths, and even for those who have no religious faith at all.

You sing this on Rosh Hashonah? Not Minhag Anglia .
@TheGreatSynagogueSydney4 жыл бұрын
Yes we do, at the end of Services. We sing a different one at the start of Shacharit. There is an eclectic mix of music here due to the various tastes of the Rabbis and Chazzanim over the years, and being far away in Australia!

@@ishaifail9107 No, it's Orthodox. Just because there is a choir and a cantor in Western clothing, does not make it Reform. There is a mechitzah. They use an Orthodox siddur. 100% Orthodox.
