That little moss ball is called a marimo. They are native to cold water lakes in Japan, and are actually balls of algae, not moss. They are very popular to give people as housewarming gifts, birthdays, etc., because they represent longevity. They can live for more than 100 years.

In the 80s I was obsessed with those little animals that you would pinch the back and their legs and arms would grab stuff and you could clip them onto anything. My dad would bring one of those home for me and it was like he brought me the best toy ever!

Hey, Bunny! I think that box that you took out of Monchichi might be a cryer like they used to put in those composition dolls. If I'm right, when you turn the purse, it should squeak unless it's the cryer has been broken. From the video, it looks like it still works, its just not the best quality.

I feel like someone should tell you, it’s very likely that little marimo moss ball is already dead. You can keep them as plants/pets but they are algae and need to be in cool, slightly brackish water which they absorb nutrients from to survive. It’s likely that’s not just water inside or the moss ball would die from lack of nutrients and become discolored, making the water become yucky. You probably have a dead, preserved moss ball which is still cute. I prefer my live ones that I can watch grow. 😊
