I think getting a Golden Retriever is a wonderful idea. They are lovely dogs, and I can understand if you might want something different from a Malamute since Phil's passing is still a little raw. Also, Phil loved his Goldens, so I think he would be happy with the decision. Go for it. There is another dog out there who would love to be part of your family.
