Interesting that you see it that way. Depends how you define britpop. For me a bridge from the whole wonderful scene from '89 to '92 kicked off by the roses and the mondays straight to shoegaze and missing out the rather depressing mid '90s oasis/blur britpop bilge that's seen as madchester's heir.

This British band is the realization that the roots of the UK Shoegazer Noise-Pop are (besides The Jesus & Mary Chain), in the British Post-Punk of the late 70's, early 80's, specifically in this group the sound of bands like The Chameleons, The Cure, Siouxsie & The Banshees, Echo & The Bunnymen, Cocteau Twins or Bauhaus/Love & Rockets . Great band.

I said that too, the minute I heard Homeboy on the radio. I bought the CD and went to the shows and met the band. People were like "Brit Pop is dead" Then Oasis came out a few years later and sold 70 million records or something like that. It seems you need a little more than just talent to make it big? I hate that aspect of the music biz.
@Gelenkbusfahrer5 жыл бұрын
@@akadjgio5941 That struck me as rather odd as well. There was so much "Brit Pop" going on during the Eighties (House of Love, anyone?) and then almost a decade later there was this Oasis vs. Blur thing happening. We all were like Brit Pop wars, wtf?! :-)
@WhiteHartDane5 жыл бұрын
As far as I remember, they really hated the press, which hardly helped . But yes, with hindsight they should've sold bucketloads of records. Some of their singles really stand out now 25 years later.

Do check out there other stuff too. Not taking away anything from the brilliance of Sunshine Smile, which is, to many, an introduction to Adorable, but there are even better tracks on both AP and Fake that you'll like and appreciate much more. Imo because of Pete's vocals, there forte lied in sombre and melancholic pieces, visible in Cut#2, breathless, Lettergo, Road Movie, A to Fade In, etc. One could even say that Pete's vocals are what made the band for a significant part.

Ahhh, having a fabulous time this evening with an epic playlist featuring a few tracks from some brilliant albums I bought many years ago. Surprise surprise, this was also on the brilliant album I bought by Adorable too. Lettergo - "Too many letters don't get sent" - how true that is, please do send those letters folks. That one struck close to home, reminded me of a guy I once knew, hadn't seen him for years - I wrote to him too many years later to see how he was doing and got a reply from his family - he had died in a horrible bus crash abroad. RIP to a very sweet man.

I used to love this band, and in particular this song and Sistene Chapel Ceiling, even though I was still in primary school but then somehow completely forgot about them. I am 37 now and a friend the other day said he really likes this early 90s band called Adorable and I was like 'hey wait a second, I know them...'. I have now ordered this single on CD off Discogs and am going to rip a high quality MP3 for my own use. Just annoying the Canadian version of their first album isn't on spotify as that has Sunshine Smile as well. As for this video, I'm sure the hipsters of Shoreditch would love it...
