One thing you should explain is how you think of these kind of shoots. You wake in the morning and suddenly say " I´m gonna make a heart of wine". Great as always Gavin.

Thanks Gavin, I didn't know about changing the opacity of a layer. That will help when I have to switch heads on group portraits. I didn't know about the multiply mode either, I'll see if my Corel program has that option.

the 50mm is a great lens and as long as you can fit the splash in the frame (I'd need a longer release cable) it would be perfect.

I quite enjoyed this video; I haven't seen anything like it!! This inspired me to do something like this on my own! I noticed a little line further down in the comments: "you do not have the teaching method, I can not follow your mouse..." I would like to disagree on that sentiment. You make the Photoshop grind interesting, and any person who is actually paying attention to what you are saying would not need to "follow your mouse." Besides...who needs to follow your mouse to the "Free Transform" button? +1 for you, and you just earned yourself a subscriber. Keep 'em coming. This is the first video of yours that I have seen and now I believe I will binge on some more of your tutorials. Thank you.

I did this with my stock 18-55 and my brand new nikon d3200 in manual! I used an old canon speed light from a film camera and had great results!
@GavinHoey11 жыл бұрын
As Vince says the effective shutter speed here was so fast IS on/off makes no difference but the Canon 24-105L is "tripod aware" so I always leave it on :-)

Hey Cesar, I've been shooting for over 10 years so let me field this question for you. You should always have your stabilizer off when on a tripod for longer exposures as the gyro inside will compensate even if there is no movement. but given that shots hes doing are to freeze the image in place, hes using a fast shutter speed, which makes the stabilizer a moot point, and any small adjustments made by the gyro wouldnt be noticeable at such speeds.

Hi was looking to give this a go and was wonder if you needed two flashes or would the background flash be enough?
@chuculan110 жыл бұрын
Hi there Gavin I have been watching your videos for quite a while and find them extremely informative and helpful. Regarding the lighting for this session your studio is extremely bright, does this add to the lighting of the glass and splash or is it purely the remote flash.
@marellacoyle699910 жыл бұрын
First and foremost another excellent tutorial from Gavin. Now to the 'In Practice' part.....I have just set up this shot exactly as Gavin advises and 4 maybe 500 shots later I have absolutely zilch. I just cant achieve the half-heart shape or anything even remotely close, i've tried wrist jerks, twists, treble back flips and everything in between with varying degrees of absolute failure. Am I missing something ? Having just read many of the posts I see nobody has actually tried the method in practice.

Thanks! But in a nutshell you can leave IS on if you're using a fast effective shutter speed or your lens is tripod aware... There's a more detailed answer further down the comments
@jaminthomas11 жыл бұрын
He did. Its just that he did not have to do much. I think he said he only increased clarity. Remember the photoshop work is mostly compositing which can only be done on jpegs or tiffs.
