You know what would be sick? If these guys made an album of original music. They could write it on the road at sound checks. Record it after the tour is over. 🙏🏼

Maybe they would. Lot's of bands make new material while touring. Why wouldn't they do it? But of course they have other obligations as they are all highly wanted musicians. Of course this tour will produce, if not new songs, ideas for new songs.

What an outstanding interview. He’s the first guy I’ve heard ever address the beauty of Belew’s singing. I was an 11-year-old budding drummer when Discipline came out. The FIRST thing that grabbed me, covering my extremities in goosebumps, was HIS voice on “Matte Kudasai.” That was the beginning and end. 🙏👌

When it came down the car I was driving had a cassette player. I had the King Crimson Beat album on cassette. Still have it. King Crimson's first album is a masterpiece, so they had to keep coming up with astounding albums to follow. Think of the astronomical number of bands from then and now, King Crimson easily in my top 25 all-time favorites and any of them could be number one or number 25. Beatles, Stones, Kinks, DC5, The Bee Gees, Ten Years After, Dire Straits, The Cars, Boston, Talking Heads to name a few others.

This is the best interview.I think i've ever heard. I. 'm 72 years old.I've been a Jethro Tull fan since the late 1960's. To me, they were the greatest band of all time.I didn't think anybody would ever come along and surpass them.But I got to say after the concert , at Ruth Ekerd Hall in clearwater FL. King Crimson is now my all time favorite. I did see them once way back at hard Rock in Orlando, Florida and I thought it was a great concert but I had to stand up for that whole concert so I couldn't get comfortable. So it was hard to concentrate on the music and with all my aches and pains at the same time. But at this concert in Clearwater, holy smoke.What a great concert anyone who's ever thought about seeing King Crimson, Do not pass up the opportunity, if you get it. They are the greatest.
@TheBoxfitterАй бұрын
I agree 100 %. I was at that show too at Ruth Eckerd Hall in Clearwater and I had seen them in the 80's on Long Island, NY. If you have the opportunity to see them, DON'T MISS IT. PAY THE MONEY AND GET THE TICKET. You'll never see a band this good again in your lifetime. And I mean it. My son who's in his thirties loved it. I'm glad I had the opportunity to point him in the right direction musically.

It was awesome to have so much time to chat with such a great human who inspired me to my music career. Discipline really spoke to me so when I moved to Vancouver and became a soundman I was the guy for your band if you did weird stuff, or if you just wanted to sound good. But I really dug the weird stuff. So yes, those records changed my life.

LOL... Bill Bruford not a fan of life on the road, evidently. He might would have felt differently if he could have traveled in style, perhaps. But, life as a pro-musician may not be all it's cracked up to be. So cool to hear AB talking about his range of experiences and growing into his profession. Great interview.
@marshallross33732 ай бұрын
As a follow up: I wonder if Bruford would be open to performing at a residence like some acts do in Vegas, or Madison Square Garden. I don't know, of course. It may be more than an issue with the road life. He said he decided to retire when he couldn't think of anything to play that was inspiring. On the other hand, I've heard him admit that he does jam with friends on occasions these days. There are plenty of great drummers, of course, but overall Bruford's combination of skill, jazz influenced style, and all of the groundbreaking recordings he's worked on, including his time with King Crimson, puts him at the top of my list of the best.

Going with three friends of mine, including a guy with his own pretty cool local prog band, Blue Cinema (instrumental music, with various flavors, very imaginative), and an old friend who has been my buddy since high school in the 70’s, when we’d see lots of prog bands (he’s a ceramic artist and even a bigger KC fan than I am. I confess, I missed all of the 80’s-early 2000’s KC but he saw almost all of them. For me, this is sort of an “atonement” for missing all that awesome KC period. I checked out of KC in the late 70’s with the Wetton/Bruford/Cross era. I had no good reason for it, just short-sightedness. So glad to sort of make amends by seeing Beat).
