huge Adrian fan and I don't dislike Jim or Sam but they have a musical icon and legend in front of them and they can't be bothered to at least peripherally know his work... Jim claims to be a huge Zappa fan yet did not know when Adrian played for him. Then when Adrian alluded to his King Crimson days (arguably one of the greatest group of musicians ever) Jim couldn't take a hint.

It's just a sad situation. Fripp is the leader of King Crimson, and his compositional genius defines what they are. Nonetheless, Belew is an extraordinary genius too, but more importantly there isn't another musician alive who could do for Fripp what Belew could do for him. Between his vocals and guitar playing, I don't know anyone else who could handle what he handled in KC (and I'm not sure how much he wrote as well). So I wish the two of them could get along -- Adrian deserved far more than an email if Robert wanted a change

Thought it was admirable how Stewart stood up for Sting when the interviewers were knocking him down. Love Stewart Copeland :) But saying that Sting did them (Stewart and Andy) a favor by sticking around for two more albums after Zenyatta because he didn’t really need them (what?) and he (SC) was grateful to him for doing that -- that’s a new one. Don’t quite get it. But I’m nobody and who cares if I don’t get it - he was there and lived it. But even though “Sting knew how to make records,” as SC put it, his solo records were not as good as Police records. So he did need them to be as great.

I think Adrian Belew is awesome, but the new version of KC is incredible, and getting Mel Collins back in the group and playing more pre-Lark's material was a welcome change.
@foodog7773 жыл бұрын
Meh! You think KC’s duet on “Indicipline” with Jacko singing Adrian’s spoken word part is good? They need 4 drummers to replace Bill Bruford! Meh!
@blissmaster713 жыл бұрын
@@foodog777 I was at the Live In Chicago show with the 3 drummers (and the 4th playing keyboards), and it was incredible ensemble playing; but you can't compare that lineup with a group with 1 drummer. If they did have one drummer, of course I would have wanted to be Bruford, but that wasn't an option for Fripp to consider. Fripp did choose to exclude Belew, but I firmly believe he chose the best ensemble for the material they played. Again, a setlist of '70-'74 material is what I preferred, over Thrak and Power to Believe stuff.

This could have all been avoided if they'd just kept the name "Discipline" and not been tempted to use the King Crimson name. I think Bill Bruford suggested it as a way to get gigs. I'm sure the name opened a couple of doors for them, but ultimately it was always potentially going to end up like this. They really should have stuck with a different name, using KC was handing this band over to Fripp. I mean, it took nearly 40 years, but it was probably always going to end up like this.

Adrian did play for 33 years with William B and Tony L, and they really appeared to be enjoying themselves both on stage and off. Those shows were to me infinitely more interesting than what I've seen with the 3 drummers circus. but everything revolves around the Dude/Silent Bob, for it is his band.

Clearly Belew was referencing Robert Fripp in his sacking from King Crimson. Brilliant though he is, Fripp doesn't strike me as being particularly warm and fuzzy - or sentimental towards someone he'd worked with so long. Pretty sad - and Fripp nowadays may not be particularly proud as to how it was handled.

@goshgolly83053 жыл бұрын
Only so much time to talk during this interview anyways. But what's wrong with being paid as a side man? Only so big of a pie to split up and blue was the frontman lead singer of the band 4 decades. He's going to want to get paid some real money. That's just business. And this is show business. Most King Crimson fans are Adrian belew fans. But that's fine Fripp wanted to try a new incarnation.
@froggy5563 жыл бұрын
@@goshgolly8305 At the end of the day, King Crimson are a functioning democracy. Everyone should be paid equal. Is it fair to pay RF more than the others because it's his band? No. And furthermore, I always liked the Cross/Fripp/Wetton/Bruford and/or Muir lineup better.
