If I were a sports agent I would ONLY take on clients that adhered to my formula: Living stipend= 10% of salary after fees and taxes 90% of remaining funds deployed in a mix of a low priced balanced Index fund and hard assets with residual income streams. Endorsements- 50% held in trust for more speculative investments and 50% is your play money. The firm would be very small to start but would see exponential growth after a cycle or two of broke athletes.

that's silly. that's not an agent's job, that's what a financial adviser does. agent is there to negotiate deals with teams and endorsements and get you paid in the first place.
@Matt-cr4vv10 ай бұрын
The broke doc explained it best that a lot of those players are pulled to the investment that sells the huge return and have zero interest in the vanilla index fund path. Or their family and friends who want them to seed their business idea and so on. And considering the long standing pattern of some absurd percentage of players who decade bankruptcy within a short period after they’re done playing it’s almost naive to think that after they see some other people go broke like the league has seen for decades that they’ll suddenly be ready to pass on all the luxuries they dreamed of and be locked in and dumping their money into index funds and living on tbeir 10% so that someday they’ll have money saved up when so many players sell themselves that the money never ends. It’s almost the most optimistic outlook that could exist to see practices like this ever become the player norm. Also pretty rare to see a financial guy that has all the clients like we see in the in the leagues because after all this stuff isn’t what a sports agent does.

It will never happen. You know why? Because the plan is to keep the masses broke and enslaved. The whole business model is set up for people to be consumers. Racking up massive amounts of debt, and then slaving to attempt to pay it off. An enormous feat. Which is facilitated by the notion that you must go to college to be successful. Accruing massive amounts of debt that ultimately enslaves you. If people had financial literacy they would avoid these traps all together. They cant have that.

Oh please, you don’t need to have grown up with vast sums of money to be financially literate. In fact, it could be said the less money you have the greater financial awareness you need. Statistically, Black Americans in every socioeconomic demographic spend a larger proportion of their earning on luxury items, but many mitigate that expense with other wealth creating financial instruments. So there must be an in built self selection factor when it comes to Professional athletes and them receiving and spending fantasy amounts of fast money 👨🏾💻🤦🏾♂️

I never understood why athletes have to pay other people to watch over their money? Dont get me wrong in some cases people need sombody to help them be smart with their money but for the most part i would think i could keep up with my own money and spending habits. Theres to many stories about people fucking over athletes bc they put to much trust in these people i dont know if thats being to lazy to take care of their own business or what. I tell my kids all the time that if they want to earn money and keep it go to school and learn how to so they wont have to depend on others to do it for em. Yes its gonna be hard dealing with all that math and learning to crunch all those numbers but its go be harder on them if they work hard all they life to make all that money just to be swindled out of it by sombody they thought had they best interest at heart.
