Players are humans. journalists and some people seem to forget that. Also Adriano got addicted to alcohol after his father’s death. He was at the best moment of his career he was the emperor in Italy he was a millionaire, but he did not spend the last part of his fathers life with him. And that killed him on the inside. All the money on the world could not bring his father’s life back. Also he did not have family members in Italy with him. His mother had younger kids to take care in Brazil. He experienced real solitude. Adriano’s downfall is a mark in the history of Brazilian football, and I will explain why. after what happened to Adriano, Brazilian players noticed the major importance into moving to foreign countries with family members or/and a few childhood friends to live with. Pay for them to study abroad, and just have real friends around. But his story didn’t end there. He comes back to Brazil, and still an alcoholic he wins the Brazilian league with his childhood team, being the top goal scorer of the league, the team that happens to have the biggest fan base in Brazil that happens to have been 17 years without winning the league. I was 17 in 2009. I was born the year we had last won 1992. He was the top goal scorer. So he rose again ! And now who follows him on Instagram notices that although he still clearly has alcohol problems, everyone clearly notices this guy is ALL heart. You go on his Instagram and people that are not Flamengo nor inter, always say “I love you didico, your humility is incredible” Didico is now his nickname, it’s a “cute” nickname for a guy with 100% heart He fell, he rose again, he still struggles.

What a great interview. Adriano speaks with such honesty and passion, it's heartwarming. He's often talked about as a footballer who wasted his talent, but one can clearly see here that it's complete bollocks. Yes, he could have achieved more, but footballers are not machines, they're human beings, they have a personal life of their own, they have problems, and he talks about his here with great transparency. After hearing him out, one can clearly see that he did his best all the way, and can have no regrets about his career. He has an interesting story and I'm curious to see the documentary and read the book. Was not familiar with the Player's Tribune before but I will check out other videos for sure.

Flamengo, Corinthians & Palmeiras represents (Santos e São Paulo also relevant, obviously) the roots of Brazilian football. The way he talls about his passion and love for Flamengo is marvelous. Football is a religion to us Brazilians. Clubs who were founded by immigrants and poor people. A hundred years after still brings emotions to all of us

I think of all the players in my life time that come under the “what if” Adriano is top. I first heard about him when he was at Parma and I genuinely thought he would go on to be the successor to R9. Ridiculously strong.. extremely fast and a left foot so powerful it was un saveable from the moment it left his boot. I don’t think it’s crazy to say the football world missed out on seeing a true generational player who could of been regarded as one of the best strikers of all time! He had the talent to do it and it’s a real shame we only saw him at his best for one season but natural talent alone will only take you so far. It’s nice to see he is happy with what he’s done in the game and wish him all the best for the future

Zlatan Ibrahimović on Adriano: "I mean I played with great champions. I played with players that already were 'WOW', I played with players that I saw were a talent and then became 'WOW', but the one I felt could do it longer, and he didn't do it, was Adriano at Inter... "He was one of the best players I ever played with. He was a different animal. Nobody could stop him.”

At the tail end of his career, I do think he absolutely wasted everything. When he left inter because he needed peace, grieving his father? Nah, I can't criticize that. Adriano is legendary. He's a real person, and one of the greatest to ever do it.

PERFEITO! Didico me deu a primeira alegria com o Flamengo.
