I love seeing your entire collection of colored pages - ALL of them. It's encouraging to see that even our favorite colorists (that means YOU) didn't start out perfect and had their own coloring journey just like us. And I'm just like you, I can't tolerate having a page that went wrong in one of my books. I carefully cut it out with an exact night. I've thought about buying a new book, but I've found the exacto knife works perfectly well and I can't even tell the page is gone. I will buy a new Ivy and the Inky Butterfly because that's a story and you can't just cut out a page of a story. I just mean the worst ones. I'm still a beginner colorist so I don't expect my pages to be amazing, they just have to look good enough in my own eyes. And I know what you mean about the Prismacolor greens, I've never been happy with them.

Like a lot of others here who have commented I have to say "give yourself a break!" Stop wincing every time you review a picture that you think is not up to scratch. Everybody does them and furthermore, everyone can see the glaring errors in their own work, even when others can't. As for buying a new copy of a book because you "messed up" a page, the publishers will love you! You have produced some lovely images, even the early ones and you should be proud of all of them. I'm sure your colouring will go on from strength to strength!

I thoroughly enjoyed your video. I thought your work was beautiful and can’t believe you haven’t been coloring for years. I agree with some of the other comments and the images you thought you messed up, I thought were quite good. Thanks for the chuckle and I can relate. There are quite a few books I’m afraid of coloring in because I don’t want to mess them up. I keep coloring in this little book I spilled water on because it’s already kind of messed up. I’m just starting to increase my pencil collection and adding other mediums. I’d love to learn how to use the pan pastels. You have inspired me to just try and with practice your coloring skills will improve. Thanks again for such an enjoyable video.

I can totally relate to what you were saying about pages that I've "fluffed up" lol! It's so upsetting to wreck a page in one of your coloring books that are the most special to you! I've been there, done that, too! And I still wreck pages sometimes, especially when trying out a new medium for the first time! But ya know, we are our own worst critics, and sometimes we are too hard on ourselves and expect way too much out of ourselves! I totally wrecked a page in my Worlds of Wonder book by Johanna Basford and I almost cried lol but when I showed my hubby he didn't understand why I was so upset because he thought I did a great job! I think it's because when we know that we're capable of doing much better, but we have an off day, it's like a punch to the gut! We just gotta learn to not be so hard on ourselves! I have some coloring books that I call my "spare" coloring books, and they are books that I don't consider my special ones, so I use those to try out new mediums, that way I don't wreck pages in my books that are precious to me! Thanks for sharing this video! It makes me feel so much better to know that it's not just me and that others go through this too!

Wow I LOVED watching the last few videos, I was looking for new books to buy especially any like my favourite artist Kanoko Eguso. I love furry little animals but small ones that dont take 1/4 of the page. Linda Ravenhurst fairies and grayscale are perfect. I dont have a Molly Harrison or a Hannah Lynn, I must decide on only one. I love anything antique looking. My bedroom/art room has antique furniture. I have vintage watercolors and vintage alcohol marker sets. I'm still unsure about Lizzie Mary Cullen. I have many of the books you havent coloured in. Your Barbara Lanza fairy book, she has two more... I am on the beginning of my colouring journey that started 18 months ago, watching youtube and slowly buying colouring books and coloured pencils.. I have a set of Prisma 150s new in a pencil case to start using and 3 more 150s as backup boxes, I also have a new set of Polychromos 120 in a pencil case and 2 more 120s backup tins of the same sets of coloured pencils. I have Faber Castell's Albrecht Durer 120 watercolor pencils and topping them all off are my 100 Caran d'ache Lightfast Luminance ALL these to color with, yet MY SECRET: I fear the blank page. I need to buy backup sets for both my watercolor pencils and my Luminance Lightfastbut I might buy Caran d'ache Supracolor's as one of the watercolor backups instead. THANK YOU for taking the time to make these videos. You have come sooooo far Im glad you showed us you first works that took courage. Instead of finding a book so far, I found a lesson of what to expect might happen during my journey and I thank you for it. Thank you for your courageous sharing of such personal feelings and stay well!😘

Keep colouring you will find your own style and the fear will go. 💖🎄

You are absolutely right about walking away. If I have had enough and put a book away, the next day I look at it and it so better than I thought it was. Also if I become frustrated with something I have learned to leave it alone, walk away, go back later and if it and the overall picture doesn't bother you leave it. Messing around with something only makes it worse.

hi Lucy, lovely video, and yes we all have pictures we don't like. You are so right, we all have to practice to get better. In the beginning I would rip the page out, one of my Johanna Basford books has about 10 pages left, all the rest are ripped out and thrown away. It's like I had to hide the evidence of how bad the coloring was. I'm better now, I can keep a page I don't like in the book and even show it on video. lol Thanks for sharing.

So now i choose a deliberately practice book and a "good one". I'm glad i'm not the only one. That said, even your "mistakes" are gorgeous. :) Edit: I want to add, that i just have copies of my absolute favorite Artists and Books. I hope you realize how good you are, those neo color pages are amazing and your pastels. I still have to watch the ones where you are actually coloring them as I don't have much experience with them and you have done them so smoothly. I also want to watch you color with pastel pencils as well as pan pastel. I am so impressed and hope to gain some insight watching you use them. The picture of the "imp" under the table stealing food was wonderful. Would you consider doing a tutorial on how you do skin, hair and fur? If you have already done them just let me know as I am working my way through the videos and haven't come across them as yet. Gosh, don't be so hard on yourself. Remember, often, it's not you, it's the wrong paper/colouring medium combination. Some pencils work a treat on a particular paper, others are a nightmare. Consequently, you don't like the end result and blame it on yourself. Don't, please!

I'm a new subscriber so this is only the second video I have watched. I watched the one you mention with the books you haven't colored in yet. You are WAY too hard on yourself. When I started "adult" coloring I didn't even try to blend or shade. I just did flat coloring for probably close to a year. Then I decided I wanted to start shading and blending so started watching videos and reading tutorials. I have a few less than stellar pictures as everyone does. The best coloring advice I have been given is to NEVER judge an image before it's complete. Skin alone looks a horror even when it's done well. Hair alone can look harsh. Once you complete the picture that one thing that you are just positive you messed up is part of the whole and it's unlikely anyone but you will even notice it. I have never ripped out a page or thrown away an image I colored because they are part of my coloring story. The images that you say are not blended well are still quite beautiful. Sometimes an image benefits from a more "rustic" look. Splotchy backgrounds are more interesting than the super smooth ones, IMO. Nature isn't perfect. The sky is not always a super smooth pale blue. People's skin isn't always baby smooth with no blemishes. As you said, if you start being frustrated by an image walk away for a little while. The image will change if you are using wax pencils, for example, because the friction makes the wax hot. Once it's cooled down it will look different. You are so hard on yourself that it's almost painful to watch. Don't be so hard on yourself. Your images are really lovely.

@@lucyjustaddscolour-adultco3135 I'm glad the comments helped you. I watched your part 2 late last night and saw that you were much easier on yourself and even complimented some of the work you thought was ruined before. Your work really is lovely. I particularly liked the image with the calf from Wild Souls I think it was. I haven't tried pan pastels yet, but everyone does such lovely work with them once I'm off my "no buy" period I am going to pick up a small set, I think.

I don't say this to be mean or anything, but you kind of make me feel bad about my own work. I'm nowhere near the level of your coloring skills, not even your beginning pictures and the way you bring those down... well then mine must be absolutely horrendous. All I could think about when I saw your work is that it looked beautiful and that hopefully I could acchieve that same kind of level some day too.

@@lucyjustaddscolour-adultco3135 Sorry, I really didn't mean to sound rude. I shouldn't have worded things the way I did. I'd practiced blending not long before I watched your video and it looked nothing like your beginning work even, so that's why I was a bit discouraged. Still, I should have kept it to myself and not make a comment about it. I watched the second part too now. That little bunny especially blew my mind. I wouldn't even know how to start coloring such a thing. Do you perhaps have some tips for an absolute beginner like me? Like what KZbin channels I could follow to get advice and learn things. So far I only know Colour With Claire and Lisa's Coloring Corner, but Lisa doesn't do tutorials. Aah, btw, maybe with that picture about Beauty and the Beast, you made the background blue because in the animated Disney movie when the Beast and Belle are dancing, he was wearing something blue if I'm not mistaken. Perhaps subconciously that influenced your decision.

I am so glad you replied. Would it help it I did a video on how I blend pencils. I have had some similar requests. If there is anything you would like to see tutorials on, please let me know and I will put a video together. Please dont feel discouraged we can learn together. Just let me know what you need and I will do my best to help support you. 💕💖

@@lucyjustaddscolour-adultco3135 That would be very helpfull : ) And thank you very much, that is really nice of you. It would help tremendously if it could be shown with something else rather than Prismacolors or Polychromos pencils. Something more budget friendly. I can't speak for any other beginning colorists, but I haven't been able to buy expensive materials yet. I'm going to save up for Prismacolors but that might take a while. But regardless of what pencils you choose to do it with, a video on blending would be great ^^

This is im sure not true. She shows people really clearly that there is a way to do things in a different way and with doing so and learning about you media and paper come to a point that you like your own work better. My personal opinion is that the most fun you tubers to watch are the ones that are authentic and share their thoughts, just the way they see it. Would be no fun at all to watch the show and tell vids without the honest thoughts of the colorist.
