While it the multipanels seems chaotic for a film, I can see that the Director was trying to go for a comic book panel style. Not that it was executed well but, you gotta give credit to creativity before they figured out the Superhero movie formula (Giant Sky laser = cash).

The funny thing is, comic books came up with dynamic panels as a way to convey motion and cinematic cuts with still images. It'd be like if they made a Charlie Chaplin biopic with sound, but they still cut to title cards with written dialogue.
@peterp2153
@peterp2153 4 жыл бұрын
Right. I guess there’s a way one could do comic panel style framing and cutting and not make it look absurd. But I’m not even sure why Lee was trying to get at here. It’s less “make it like a motion comic” and more just throw every kind of strange trick we can think of. There’s one shot that always sticks in my mind, when Hulk busts out of the facility and into open desert. We actually get a static shot of a wall, and before Hulk actually breaks thru the wall, in the corner we see a smaller frame of the same wall that A small Hulk breaks through, and THEN we see Hulk break through it again on the ‘main’ panel. Like WTF is that? And how does that even reflect comix books? That’s just a miniature Hulk caught in a weird time loop where he does shit before he does it.

The action scene in the desert is pretty cool, I like the scene in the bathroom where Hulk breaks the mirror. I also kinda like that the villain is his dad and his powers are to absorb the energy around him. Pretty good analogy for an abusive parent, I think. The problem wth this movie is that it's a bit too crazy. Like, it goes for a really artsy angle while also being a blockbuster and those things don't really jive. If they tonned that stuff down a bit and made the characters less sulky, I think this would be one of the best superhero movies. Hulk is an interesting character that deserves a better on screen representation. I take this movie over the 2008 any day. That one is just a boring generic movie.

I loved this movie as a kid and love it now (even more so) as an adult. It’s story is wonderful (the plot centering around the strained relationship between father and son was excellent and amazingly done, as well as relatable for many) has well aged cgi, decent-enough acting (the only thing I really didn’t like was the line reading from San Elliot on coming to the realization of Bruce having repressed memories) and so much more. One thing I really enjoy are the comic-book-style edits, that adds onto the sort of “cheese” you find in the actual books themselves, but it’s not enough to take you out of the seriousness of the story. Another thing is how, every time the Hulk got angrier, he grew bigger, just like in the comics.
