I feel like the solution is not 10+1 but more somethign like 5+1:20 if that's even possible, with more increment it means you have the chance to bank more per turn as opposed to just save what you have from the start.

@@Gatitasecsii What we actually need is 30s for turns 0-5, 1minute for 6-10, 1:30 11-15, 2m for all the turns after turns 15. To stop people spending time calculating their early game engagements while actually giving them time to move all the units late game.

​@@SqrLMaSTeR123 I disagree, I think there's a lot of merit to playing a game like this faster. Personally I think the move planner is a big crutch that shouldn't exist. Plus It's not like you can't watch boring slow games anyway, the league won't go anywhere.

Heh, you two spend the entire match yelling "attack! Attack!" and tordread was like "nah I'm good". If going down a tier cost was meant to be a funny move, gotta say it had the complete opposite effect, man a real snore of a match here, thanks for the commentary and to the players either way though!

On timers - I don't think 10+1 is the best, because slower players can relax, waste that time, and still be just as messed up. I'd rather see 5+1.25 on these larger maps (if that's an option), so the increment is just about sufficient if you're fast. For a 20-turn game that would give you the same time as 10+1, but keep the pressure on.

I've suggested 5+2 so they can actually play late game on some increment. Or 1.5 if that's an option. Forces early good movement to maintain any semblance of time advantage.

1.5 increments are not possible sadly due to the way the site is coded. I spoke to the admin about it.

Just set the timer to 1+2. You'll build up a reserve in the first 7 or so days anyways since it's just basic quick infantry movements.

@@KingTwelveSixteen Oh this seems interesting, I agree! and more increment means there's more banking opportunity as opposed to just saving the starting time. It becomes more of a resource to manage so to speak, like, you can use a defensive turn to bank more time than you would on an offensive turn. I think 1+2 sounds pretty good, but I guess the time for testing is past xD

I think the reality is that the one minute increment is what made this match so uninteresting. In my view, you want to give enough of an increment for the players to be able to make solid turns without dragging things out forever in the move planner and also without making it so that the first person to take a real turn immediately loses to the counterattack. What is the reason for not even considering a 2 minute increment for these matches? Alternatively, give both players something like 40 minutes each with no increment. (You'd want to adjust that based on the turn limit and maybe map size.)

Congrats to the winner, he played INCREDIBLY, but I have a critique for them Spoilers not that it mattered here but Tordread should've recognized that near the end you will have less time to move units, therefore, even if you don't have income advantage, it's always better to tech up if you are able to. Near the end of a live match unit count is not as important as in a normal match, because many of those units will be out of place. So building bombers and medium or neo tanks sounds really solid. Even Fighters could do well in a match like this to ward off or even pick off helicopters. But anyway Tordread is an absolute grandmaster, he's one of my favorite players, and I'll be rooting for him!!

Would it be possible for increment to operate per unit? Like for each unit a player has, on their turn they gain x seconds on the clock.

Unpopular opinion: the increment should be +2. Time is deciding more matches than tactics with +1. "It's about resource management!" Yeah sure, but I watch AWBW for big plays, not for macro.

Whilst I can see your point, I disagree. These players just have to adapt to the increment; many turns tordread could've just ended his defensive turns without moving his units, thereby building timer for the offensive turns. And while he was the better one at time management, he could've also stopped building small units and teched up to get stronger units that you don't spend too long managing. So there's still a lot to be said for these "grandmasters" to actually get good at quick matches. I guess we gotta wait until they have a ladder for them to take it seriously.

​@@Gatitasecsiiawbw interface is not suited for fast play, you waste tons of time just moving your units from one place to another without really thinking. IMO, 2+2 timer should be enough for this people, not too much time to think on the early game but enough time on the late game with +25 units.

Also I really like that these aren't live, because you guys give too much good advice and I fear that if you make the tournament live someone will be snooping for advice. Unless you put like a 5 minute delay on

Maybe make the increment 2 minutes. I usually play with 5 plus 2mins every turn on my live games and it works like a charmer. 1min increment is just not enough. Looking at the past games we see that the highest of rated players just struggle or even time out multiple times

Sounds like JTQWN was an overhyped player, I mean I did beat a Max using Rachel but I went a tier lower because my opponent wasn't super strong and the map was favorable to Rachel in some ways, so going a tier lower wasn't a good move there unless the map favor it.

Otherwise yes people lose no matter their rank but not like this and yes you have Grim guy who can win using a lower tier (Grim) so you can use a lower tier and win, here it make no sense so he was overhyped.

His rating has nothing to do with hype, and he is clearly a good player based off rating alone, and so is tordread. He is not "overhyped," he is just getting some coverage because he is an interesting character, and maybe he played into that a bit by picking rachel. He clearly plays for fun, not necessarily to win.
