In this video I use my classic Day-to-Night technique to deal with more advanced objects, such as festoon lighting, I also use advanced AI features in Photoshop such as Generative Fill to remove unwanted items in the Photograph. I also take you through how to create a Panorama from four RAW images, and then also show you how to make the images more manageable using image resizing in Photoshop.
I often read comments that people are having problems with their computers, as they start to slow down if the file size is too large or if too many Gradiets Masks are used, so in this video, I describe and demostarte ways to prevent this from happening, as this images had more than 100 radial gradients!! I have also intentionally not included my normal step of using the AI Denoise function to try to keep the file size manageable.
If you enjoy the video please feel free to click 'like' and it you have not already, I would love you to subscribe and join me here on KZbin. If you have the time I would also very much appreciate a comment, or feel free to ask a question or leave me a tip :-)
If you would like to follow along, you can find the four RAW files here :- drive.google.com/drive/folder... All I ask is that you respect my copyright, if you do wish to share your version of my photographs, please give credit for the originals to myself @jamiermathlin thank you.

I watched three of your tutorials last night. I lay in bed thinking about all these day to night conversions and I thought surely the same technique is quite repetitive and what else can we learn...…then I thought again and analysed...….sky replacement, colour grading, transform, how to mask, make selections, how to use intersect in the masking section, which direction is the light being cast, even knocking down the file size to make your computer cope! WOW The detail is incredible and presented with consummate ease. To be honest I am staggered by the results, just in awe of your work which is giving me no end of pleasure and increasing my knowledge at the same time. Just want to say I am enjoying your journey on here. Thank you so much.

Your day-to-night conversions are always so pleasing to look at. They are photographic art that I find inspiring. You're absolutely right about Windows/Intel computers not handling too many radial filters. I have an i7 processor, 16 GB RAM, and a 1 TB SSD, yet my computer slows to a crawl when I get over 12 to 15 radial filters.

Hey Marlin, thank you again for your support and kind words, you know I appreciate your feedback and comments. I have friends with top-spec i9 12900k Intel processors and 128GB RAM and 4090 Graphics Cards running windows and they still seem to run into radial issues, so I think it is something to do with Windows rather than the hardware. With Macs, it is something to experience, as you can see from this video I was running with around 120 radials and other masks and there were no problems at all, and remember I am also 4k video screen capturing at the same time. These new M Chip Apple machines are something quite special. For creative work, I am not sure you can do any better. 😀

For newbies, when you are using the Radial tool, remember that if you hold the Option key, you can control the four sides of the radial independently.

Blimey Jamie, when I first saw this video thumbnail on KZbin I was astounded with the level of detail you have gone to in this image and wondered if I would need my household fire extinguisher close by in case my poor old PC burst into flames attempting to emulate it 😱 I made sure to read your comments first and then watch through the whole tutorial to discover the great tip to manage the 100+ radial gradiants. That tip alone is worth a thousand likes. Once again you have provided a great image to work on, but I might have to set aside a whole afternoon to complete it. Love your work.

@@jamiermathlin Hello again Jamie. I finally got around to doing this awesome tutorial last Saturday afternoon. It took me nearly 3 hours which included a couple of coffee breaks to give me a chance to step away which then allowed me to come back and look at the work so far with a fresh perspective. I find that doing so works well for me. I certainly had a great time doing it and on a happy note, the fire extinguisher wasn't required. Also, I only had to bounce the image back in and out of Photoshop once to reset the masks. 😄

I used to name them, but then realized that it is easier to just click on the mask tab either in the mask menu or better still just click the marker on the picture when I need to make another adjustment. But the beauty is that you can choose to do it your way 😀

Great video with everything explained clearly and nothing rushed, thank you. I noticed that when you removed the security guy, the "Wagamama" reflection was 1/2 back to front. Is there a way to easily correct that?
@jamiermathlin
@jamiermathlin 7 ай бұрын
Hi Phil, you have a sharp eye 👍 time is always an issue when making my videos, so somethings I have to ignore, but yes it could be corrected by using a reverse mask reflection technique ( see my latest video ‘Like Magic’) to correct the writing. Thanks for the question 😁

Jamie, excellent video as usual, I'm in the process of upgrading my 2017mac 27in with 32gb ram to a MacBook Pro. What spec would you recommend or use yourself?
@jamiermathlin

Hi Derek, thank you for the question. It really depends on your budget, so I would suggest the 3 following options :- 1. upto $2.5k - Macbook Pro 16" with M3Pro 18GB Ram 512GB SSD (if you can get 1TB) 2. upto $3k - MBPro 16" with M3Pro 36GB Ram and 1TB SSD 3. upto $3.5k - MBPro 16" with M3Max 36GB Ram 1TB SSD. Personally, I have a MBPro 16" M1Max 32GB RAM 1TB SSD for my laptop, three years old and still super fast, and I have a Mac Studio M2Ultra 64GB Ram 2TB SSD, and that it truly stunning ! The new M3 Chipsets are a big step up, the M3Max chip is almost as fast as the M2 Ultra, either way if you purchases any of the above, they will eat Adobe LR & PS, and it will last you for 5 plus years without any performance or RAM concerns.

@@jamiermathlin Much appreciate your prompt reply and advice, 16” MBP M3 With 32GB of RAM 1TB SSD was what thought was the sweet spot for me as I don’t do video, I thought the MBP MAX might be over kill. Plus with not being able to use my existing perfectly good 27in 5K Mac as a monitor I’ll have to bye a new MAC STUDIO MONITOR at £1500 altho I would prefer 32in screen such as BENQ PD3205U if you have any thoughts On that please let me know? Kind Regards Derek

Yep, a few people noticed, including me, but sometimes you have to just move forward,, as my videos are quite long anyway. It could have been corrected by using the mirror option in free-transform in PS. Well spotted 😀

I downloaded the 4 files and used Lightroom to make a pano, in exactly the same way that you did in the video. However that pano will not open in any program other than Lightroom - most apps say the file is either corrupt or the format is not recognized. I have tried several times with no luck. Any chance that you could make your dng pano available? Thanks for all your great videos.
@jamiermathlin

Sorry to hear that you are having a problem with the pano file, could I just ask about your computer, how much RAM do you have, and how much spare space on the main hard drive ? I ask as the pano is a very large file and when opened in RAW it will use around 2.5Gb of RAM...
@jamiermathlin
@jamiermathlin 5 ай бұрын
PS. If you send me a message through the contact page of my website jrmathlin.uk I will be happy to share a separate link for a smaller pano file 😀

@@jamiermathlin I have 16GB of RAM and about 120GB of free space on my C drive. I can merge the 4 photos OK to produce a pano, but that pano is not recognized as a raw file by any photo viewer. I organize a photo group and every month I give the group a few photos to edit for practice. I would love to give them your pano to work on, rather than giving them 4 photos to make a pano then edit.
