Finally, humanity has advanced to the point where we can have entire channels devoted to circuit-board repairs.

I watched a couple of your videos and the next thing I know; I am repairing OVER 80% of dead laptops coming to my shop - with NO schematic. The other 20% are not failures; they are only "Not Economically Viable" repairs. That's my personal code word for "I can't figure this one out and a new board off eBay is under $150 US."

Great video Sorin. A real TUTORIAL. Why? 1. Because you were 'THINKING LOUD' and so you explained us why you put the probes there and not elsewhere. 2. You focused the camera on the component under test. 3. I 'm sure everybody understood, even the not advanced ones. I learned a lot, thank you!

This was one of your best, Sorin. Really enjoyed watching your thought process when the things went wrong. You kept your cool and were so patient. I liked your creative solution and adapting your way around a problem with the materials you had on-hand. Each time you had a problem, you would lean back with your pipe and think about the things carefully. And you would talk about the problems and how they can be avoided. Really a good video, Sorin!

I just finished repairing the same issue you had with that ss34b diode on the Sony after watching your video thanks sorin your the man
@vlatkosurlan5455 жыл бұрын
Sorin, you cannot replace a Schottky with any diode. Schottky diodes are fast in switching on and off. If you replace it with a slower diode it will lose half or more of the pulse by the time it turns on and after the voltage is smoothened with the caps you get lower voltage because the slower diode lost a chunk of the pulse.

38:06 Sorin to be sure what the component is - just take a look for the white marks on the borad. In electrionics first letters always means what componet it is. So "D1" D-means Diode, "ZD2" ZD means zener diode, "R20" R means resistor, "C3" "C109" C means capacitor, "U3" U means unit/chip/ic, "L11" L-means coil, "PQ..." or "Q..." -means transistors, "F..." means fuse, "JP..." JP means jumper bridge
@NarasimhaB5 жыл бұрын
'Q' means it's either a transistor or mosfet. PQ means it's a mosfet in power regulation, usually the VRM section or step down section on the computer motherboards. Similarly PC cap I think.
@cat-lw6kq5 жыл бұрын
except for zener diodes, often it's marked just D. I worked for some years in a repair shop, not an expert by any means but that's what I'me seen.

This was a great journey! There was some same kind of issues, when i fixed Salora videos. There was a dirty loading encoder switch, which caused malfunction. Before that i make some miss thinkings. I measured it's power supply lines (18, 16, 12, 5 and -21 volts) with diode test and -21V line seemed to be dead short, but it was okay. The line powered videos display and obviously it was okay to have about 8 ohms in that line. When the machine was powered i measured all the voltages including -21V. In some point I thought, that one of the main boards resistor was open, but actually it was a cap, which looked just like a regular resistor.

1:46:00 thanks for show me -that linear regulator will be good there as well. You have right -somethimes is better to use it, than buy and wait long for new IC. But then i was affraid that dropping 12V to 5V is a huge work for regulator (over the half), so it can be a very very hot, and you put in directly on capacitor, so basically you put heater on capacitor, which is very doggy haha :D :) But if is cold (as you said) then no problem. The point is You had very good oportuninty/chance to explain us, that we have to check current value first and then temperature of regulator and keep it away from capacitors and if it is very very hot then we can use a small heatsink to low temprature. I bet a lot of people here didn't know about that. But anyway - thanks again. I love your videos.
