I completed my N6 (electrical) - I want to get my advanced diploma, I have to do it part time as I'm currently working. Where can I study? And secondly, how long will it take to complete it? Thanks in advance.

Hi Zanele, Please compare Adv. Diploma vs B-Tech Vs B-Eng Tech, and also what would you recommend for a N.Dip holder between Advanced diploma and B-Eng Tech. Please take note that it will take 2 more years if a technician enrolls for a B-Eng Tech as opposed to one more year for an Advanced Diploma. With everything considered, I don't know which of the 2 would be the most beneficial to me since I have a National Diploma.

For a national diploma holder: an Advanced diploma can be done part time. So if you are working, this might be a good idea for educational progression. A BEng Tech is currently only offered full time. So if you are working, it may not work out. After obtaining advanced diploma or BEng Tech, one may progress onto a BEng Tech honors in some institutions such as UNISA and UJ or Post graduate diploma in some institutions such as VUT, which can be done part time

I get that students currently doing their N-Diploma can advance to Advance Diploma, I assume that is for students explicitly doing an N-Diploma; so what does this mean for those of us who are doing N4 - N6, do we still get the N-Diploma after 2 years of post grad work experience or do we get the advance diploma. Also does the National Higher Diploma get phased out too.

National N Diploma is at NQF level 6 (having completed nated courses up to N6), as are the Diploma or Advanced Certificate. One would have to study further towards a Bachelors Degree in a related field or Advanced Diploma which are at NQF Level 7. The aligned framework is now (NQF 5-7): Bachelor’s Degree (360 credits) NQF level 7 Bachelor of Education (480 credits) NQF level 7 National Diploma (360 credits) NQF level 6 Diploma (360 credits) NQF level 6 Diploma (240 credits) NQF level 6 National Higher Certificate (120 credits) NQF level 5 Higher Certificate (120 credits) NQF level 5

Hey, I have an advanced diploma and it is not recognized as a degree in China. I applied there for the Epik program and I was told I need to have a Bachelor's degree even though they're both on NQF Level 7. I was even told that I would get hired if I had a btech but not an advanced Diploma meaning Btech is better than advanced Diploma. My question is, do you know of any university's in SA that I can convert my advanced diploma into a degree? Thank you in advance.

If your advanced diploma is an engineering one, I think your best bet would be to do a BEng Tech honors. An advanced diploma qualifies you to be accepted into that program. I know UNISA has it. UJ possibly has it as well.

There's a number of factors to consider. Firstly I would say, your academic abilities. Secondly, where you would like to go with your career. The theoretical content and complexity of a BEng is not the same as a N. Dip. The N. Dip is two years theory and 12 months service training. The BEng is four years theory.
