Is it necessary to mark the "bias square" on the actual fabric, as was done on the muslin? I figure that since the weave of the muslin might differ from the actual fabric, it might not be as exact?
@NickVerreosFashionSchool7 жыл бұрын
Hi Gabhari! It isn't so necessary to mark that "bias square" but it does help when trying to find the proper bias. When cutting on the bias, I try to "eye" the grain on the fabric when eye'ing my pattern on it. Usually, on most fabrics, you can kind of see the grains so I sort of just use my eye and fabric to place the pattern on the bias. But for novices, drawing that "bias square" might be helpful in the beginning. Hope this helps!--Nick

my verreos can you please explain why in your basic draped dress (yellow dress ) you used the selvage (along the grain) to start the drape yet on this one you start on the bias?
@kpr0ck7 жыл бұрын
draping a couture wrap dress
@NickVerreosFashionSchool7 жыл бұрын
Hi darling! Good question! The reason I used the selvage for the drape of the yellow fabric is because this was a stretch knit jersey drape. And the draping lesson in which started with the bias was NOT--it was woven. When draping a garment using a jersey knit (stretchy) fabric it is pretty useless to use the bias (it stretches ALREADY!) unless of course, the knit is striped and you want to somehow utilize the stripes, etc. But when a drape is in a woven fabrication (the first "Advanced Drape" video), then it is much better to use the bias. The bias of a woven fabric stretches and almost acts as if it was knit (well, semi-knit). Anyhow, hope this helps and makes sense. To recap: When draping a dress/gown that is in jersey, never mind the bias. When doing a "draped gown" in a woevn fabric (silk, silk crepe, etc.), begin your drape using the bias. It will drape better and more beautifully. XO, Nick

Ok...this method just turns out to be one hot mess. How do you know how to cut the bottom of the dress straight on the form? How do you take it off the dress form to sew it? The pinning when it's on the form causes the fabric to do funny things. I tried to repin it and then it's confusing to match things up when it's off the form . Not a single person on KZbin explains how you get it off the form and sew it. This method is not for me. The measurements just don't turn out either. Hats off to those that can figure it out. It's back to patterning for me. You make it look easy. I loved you on PR
