Little tip, If you have a ranged group of units attacking setlers, You can use defense mode the block their way out.

You forgot about the melee units - they have other formations.

The stand ground ability should be used on Cavalry so it doesnt Run into Anticav and suicides head on while you are dealing with your Eco for a Split second

also, if you've never tried this, I recommend using it in tight situations if you have no hussar available, putting Dragoon or Ruyter in Melee mode is highly effective against Artillery, not as effective as hussar or Uhlan etc but useful if you can't make hand cavalry quick enough

to beat musks either send canons or longbowmen/skirms. To beat longbowmen send melee cav like hussar, cossack, uhlan, coyoterunners etc.

the spacing formation tends to become less effective the more unts in the formation selecting less units causes a much more visible spacing which can be described as fingertip to fingertip.

also when using defense mode with a combination of range and melee units mele will by default go tho the outside and attempt to encompass the range units as much as possible which is why the calvary clumped so close together at 5:23 as they formed as tight as possible a square around the one ranged unit in their formation a contrasting event also happens when you have a large number of ranged units and few mele and will result in the melee units being on occasions one unit per side of the square.

I have some problem. I have enable "advanced formations" but my units do something wrong. For example when i click defend mode they form a compact box instead of a wide square with empty space in the middle. Diffrent than in the movie. I have AoE 3 complete edition. I have oryginal game and improvement mod latest version. What i doing wrong?

They don’t go in a square mode ever when I defend it seems all the positions are exactly the same they never move or really change positions idk why

so that's how the cav box is formed how is that possible for game mechanic to pull off that tight formation.

Wonder how dragons do against artillery in melee mode since they suck in there standard mode do about as much damage as musks do. I know obviously not ideal but if your in a pinch have no light cav and need to take out canons that are doing work on your inf I wonder if it’ll work well.

Am i missing something or your game is quite different?? There is a one more kind of resource in your resource bar and alsoo i cannot see those ADVANCED FORMATIONS on my tactics bar.. I mean, they are not there initially. How can i open or activate it?

I dont understand why when i put my cav in defense mode they do the perfect square with the guy in the middle but when they get to a wall or somewhere they break up the square and loose the formation taking way more time to destroy walls or others. Does anyone have a idea what that could be ? Thanks

Thanks you helped me. Do you know how a new guy can level up his city for multiplayer vs AI? Everyone keeps kicking me because they think Im too low

You probably don't have a high enough rank, play in a lower ranked lobby so you can rank up easier. Your Home City will get upgraded then aswell. Once you reach level 100 in one home city, when you make a new one it will also be level 100.

Hello. Is there a way to change the default formation for units when they come out of baracks. I play lot of tomma, and I always need to change them melee combat. I googled it but cant seem to find anything. Ty beforehand
