There's an emphasis put on flies and equipment because those things make money! It's hard to sell someone a drag-free drift, so guides keep that part secret.

It is possible to sell a drag free drift, I teach people how to perform a natural drift all the time, pays quite well I must say.

Should you start downstream and work up, or upstream and work down?

TomBrooklyn good question, I usually walk Upstream to make the way back easier but walking with the glare on your side might help on a clear day. But you also have to the the first half of he day might be the best because it’s morning so walking downstream would spook the Fish below in some spots
