The IAMs course greatly improves awareness and roadcraft but is not a guarantee of zero accidents. It gives you the tools but requires constant input, self-analysis and practice. For me, money well spent and brilliant 250+ mile ride-outs each weekend with a great bunch of people.

Good vlog. I agreed with everything you said. The best training I ever had was 40 years ago when I joined a defensive driving (riding) course organised by the local police. It was good, practical advice which I apply to all my driving and riding..

You're 'Self preservation' style of riding is educational to watch, but you still make good progress. Great to watch. Enjoyed the chat/stories too. Thanks.

Nice video, you even past the end of my road so I am familiar with your route. Your common sense approach to safer riding should be noted by more riders especially here in North Wales.

No accidents in all years of riding proves that you are a safe rider.... Agree with advanced riding courses...did one years back but it was pointless for all I Learned.... the bike is much easier to navigate the town... Kool vid 👍👍

I keep myself in check by reminding myself I am average at best, I also remind myself that no other road users have seen me so I need to anticipate there lack of awareness. I don't get the insistence of advanced riding to always be looking to overtake, it feels like you are taking unnecessary risks. Nice smooth ride out thanks for posting, ride safe.

What bike is that ? I think advanced training would be good for young people with no road experience. I'm 43, did my IBT ( CBT ) here in Ireland end of August, still have no bike but I really do think that having 20 + years driving experience helps massively. What I find incredible is that most people young and older only think about getting the most powerful bike they can, experienced or not, ok, maybe not most people but quite a lot. You simply can't pass your IBT/CBT and think that you have the skills to ride a 70+ Hp bike, I think the current licensing system is nuts, while 125 for young people and up to 35 Kw A2 is ok there's a big gap between 35 Kw and 50 Kw which is the minimum for the A licence test. I've no idea who thought that 3 days on a basic course in any way qualifies someone with absolutely no experience onto an unlimited power bike. In my opinion there should be no A2, just A1 and A because I feel that a 35 - 49 Kw bike is more than powerful enough to do the A test and in order to get the A license many people are getting much too powerful bikes for their first bike with 0 experience. It's utter madness. I do feel younger drivers should be restricted though, I mean, I definitely wouldn't have had the maturity at 16 to ride a 70 odd HP bike and at 43 I have the maturity to know that it's madness to go for a 50+ Kw bike for my first bike. It's really stupid because if I go for A2 that limits me to 35 Kw max and that's probably going to be more than enough but there are many bikes just over 35 Kw I would not be able to ride. I hear so many people tell me, " you need power to get out of bad situations" but I don't intend getting into these situations, no matter how good you are if you're going too fast you will not have time to use those skills and many riders are going well in excess of the speed limits on narrow country roads and on the motorways.

I agree with a lot of what you said but even the best rider can make a mistake. I did a Police BikeSafe course last year and I thought it was a day well spent.
