ADVANCED SELFIE CHALLENGE: Dark Emotional Heartbreak Edition (6 Easy Self Portrait Ideas)
Round two of my Advanced Selfie challenge, this time coming to you with the dark, emotional, heartbreak edition. I think tough emotions are really powerful for us creators to embrace.
Being able to translate what you're feeling into art doesn't only result in beautiful images, but it also helps you to process your emotions, so don't shy away from creating art when you're going through tough times!
I think even if you're not going through tough times, just channeling dark feelings or even extreme feelings will add a new layer to your photos. So give it a go.
Let's make it our challenge for this week. The Sad Advanced Selfie Challenge (#SadAdvancedSelfieChallenge)...man that's a long hashtag. See how you can harness the power of dark emotions to help you create pieces of art!
Share them on your social media for me to browse! I'm excited to see what you come up with!
Here is the link to my previous Advanced Selfie Challenge where I was in a Tiny Room and created 7 Advanced Selfies in there: • ADVANCED SELFIE CHALLE...
I'm excited what came out of these advanced selfies. Please let me know which shot is your favourite!
I hope you enjoyed this video!
PS. I'm ok dudes. No need to worry about me! I'm just showing the power of emotions in this video :) No heartbreak on this end.

Yay for feelings helping to create beautiful art! Let's make it a challenge for the week to bring emotion into your photographs - The Sad Advanced Selfie Challenge (#SadAdvancedSelfieChallenge) - man that’s a long hashtag. Who’s in? PS. I’m totally fine. Just over seeing fake smiles on the internet and wanting to get more emotion into photographs because we aren’t one dimensional beings! All emotions should be acknowledged and embraced!!! #AHappyLifeIsABoringLife ;)

Hey Sorelle, I'm so glad that you made this video. I'm not here to say "I struggle with this and that", but want to ask you a question. I'd like to share a photo, but it's not like sad. I think it's rather dark/psycho. Is that fitting in this challenge as well?

I'm crying, but i don't know why. I think we all needed a person to represent that sadness can be transformed to art. And this is it. This video. Thank you for putting this out there. Creators heal faster because we use out emotions in our art.

World needs positivity, light and mind expansion through art , prefer your sunny side, and sunny side doesn't mean that you have to be happy all the time. It means that through art we deliver positive vibes for expansion and creativity. That's what is missing from human art in our age...and you are an expert in the bright creative side of the art. Really appreciate your work

Sorelle I love your attitude and content. You’re a breath of fresh air. Most people in photography and videography on KZbin and elsewhere are so predictable and so bland. Your style, attitude, outlook, approach and methods are amazing and I’m inspired. I love watching you work and create. You make me have faith again in art and unlike others, instead of doing the WHAT and HOW as most people do, you search for the WHY! Awesome! Thank you!

Sorelle...you are absolutely right when you say that about emotions and allowing ourselves to feel them instead of denying them and avoiding them....this leads to healing, therefore, birthing new creativity and as a result, setting us free!... Great insights... You make 'Adanced Selfies' be more about the embracing of the 'Self' and in every aspect of it. Especially this particular one, is the expression that's the most confrontational one, yet the one that drives us to be more authentic. So thank you for sharing authenticity through your work, Sorelle!!..💕💕💕

I took my first advanced selfie yesterday. It was liberating! I have always had this burning desire to dive into photography but constantly held back by a lack of confidence and debilitating perfectionism. Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU for just being you and real and raw and sharing with the world. I signed up for skillshare a few weeks ago after watching one of your videos. Game changer! Then your video on just going for it and putting yourself out there no matter what gear you have or where you are at in your skill level was enough to finally tell those annoying little voices of self doubt to shut the hell up! I am finally going for it! Feels so dang good to create again! Thank you Sorelle!

You are such an inspiration Sorelle. I used to be so camera shy and would run away from cameras but after watching your videos i’ve gained so much confidence in front of the camera. I am now taking pictures that portray a lot of emotions and even though i don’t like majority of them i still put them out. This dark moody concept is my favorite concept in photography. I love how it portrays raw emotions and vulnerability

You speak as if creators are so different from everyone else, but we're not all alone in these feelings. I think that everyone feels the need to create something, (and the wreched emotions that come with that,) to add to the world we were born into before we leave it.

There's so many possibilities in this direction for art. Pain is usually the source for the greatest of art. Thing is, I'm getting old and I just don't want to go there. One of the best things about you is how you project joy in your artwork. I know we all need balance, but your gift isn't suffering. At least is doesn't seem that way to me.

I love the drama and the tragedy in here. The aura of the darkness. My favs are: flowers in a vase with the ring next to them, and two first ones - because of everything. Your poses there and the austere surrounding, tells about a tragedy and helplessness. As if the world's over. But there is a light. There's something outside. In these pictures I can see the sadness, helplessness, a lack of strength to live. However, this window brings there also hope, that one day this person will be happy again. I love also the one in bed - as you are holding a candle in your hand. Think that's the best one to me. It's PERFECT. Honestly, I think that emotions are the essence of art. Emotions create an art, to be specific. Photographs without them are just pictures that someone took.

I think everyone is trying to bring so much positivity into social media and to show something that they are not (heya I am super-duper happy-clappy and never have any troubles in my life) that it becomes so overly sugary that people feel sick. Like plastic faces, bodies, emotions, and zero tolerance to reality. And it's sad because there are struggles and pain and sickess, humiliation, abuse, break down and mental health illnesses. And so so much of this. And people who have those emotions or troubles feel much more isolated because of the social media, because everyone supposedly should only show how happy clappy they are. You know when you are an adult and you cannot eat some kid's sweets because they are so sickening sweet that you feel nauseous? That's is what I mean. Thank you, Sorelle, for showing your darker sides too. That is so authentic and respectful. Thank you.

@Sorelle, thank you so much for publishing this video. I have subscribed to so many other photographers on KZbin and, while they all are brilliant at what they do, it’s only you I find humanising the process. You’re literally the only photographer whose video I eagerly wait for cause there’s so much value in what you offer to this world. You make me realise why I love photography as an art form. I love the thought process behind these photos and the attention to detail. My personal favourite has got to be the one with the chair. I literally went back and paused the video at that scene and stared at that photos to take it all in. You are an awesome photographer and more so an amazing person. I hope someone reminds you of this every single day of your life. ♥️

Pro tip for sad photos! Using some oil (for example rosehip, jojoba, olive) to make tears is suuuper efficient. Take a dropper, put a drop or two near the inner corner of the eye and let it slide down your cheek like a real tear would. Using oil instead of water makes it stand out more, doesn't dry as fast as water would so more time for taking the perfect shot.

I've always found my best poetry comes out when I'm in a depressed state. But it has to be natural. Last year I was writing a poetry suite for my HSC, and the content was quite dark, but I was just not feeling dark at all. I tried to listen to sad songs and watch videos but what came out just wasn't real. Writing when I'm feeling depressed feels a lot more authentic.

Your photography truly speaks to me as I love taking photos of myself because each time I get a glimpse of who I truly am. And your way of photographing is so inspiring as it makes emotion the main part of the photo and not just the beauty. Many channels these days just try to make the photo beautiful and creative while they forget one of the most important part that makes us appreciate and relate to the photography and that is Emotion. Thank you so much for sparking my creativity again while I was feeling dry for months. And please stay as smiling and whacky as you are, you warm up peoples heart with your awesome personality.

I had this thought of the concept of emotional expression within images a moment ago and it led me to finding your video. I agree with what you are saying. Everyone isn't expressing true emotion... No matter what kind of photo it is, someone will still try to be attractive or elegant. Like, it's so crazy how much of a stranger someone can be to you. sorry I'm pretty high too, just deep in thought.

Omg your videos and photos are just masterclass in art and emotion. I know it sounds super cliche and cheesy but every single one of your videos make me think about life, about me and what I want to be and do, makes me want to be a better more real person. So thanks again for being you, an awesome true emotional human being ;D

Why do you always read my mind? Was just thinking about how to show more dark emotion in self portraits. Art always gives me a way to actually process and realize these emotions .❤️ Loved this
