First of all, thank you for posting your technique on KZbin. The issue I have with this technique is that for it to work, the opponent throwing the punch must pause with his hand extended after he has thrown the punch. If one looks at frame 2:17, you can literally see the "uke" pause and look at the face of the "nage" until his arm is seized for the technique to complete. Mind you, the "nage" is already going pretty swiftly through the technique. You can see the same pause at 2:33 and so on. To me, there are scenarios where this is possible: the opponent is drunk, exhausted, or not really punching but actually "reaching" for his opponent. But, against a determined and healthy opponent who is actually throwing a combination of punches, I doubt this would be possible. Just my opinion, respectfully stated. Again, thank you for posting on KZbin - it is greatly appreciated.

I think thats the point, to take advantage of a crucial mistake like leaving your arm in a dangerous spot for 1 second too long.
@MVK_GS8 жыл бұрын
I believe that if this was the intention of the technique, it would have been explained that way. But, what you say is true in that it would be the only scenario where I'd see it working. So, it's not to say that it would not work. Quite the contrary, it would work, but only in the very specific situation where your opponent is tired, untrained, or hurt, and leaves the arm extended for you to grab and destroy. But, against a healthy and alert (and experienced) opponent, I don't think so.

Yes there is a semi beat missing in the count and I personally don't like moves like this in my own own arsenal. I'm actually more curious why you wouldn't just slip and uppercut like a boxer, exactly what he does here but instead of raising the arm to the outside as a block he should come straight up the inside. I'm 41yrs of age now and have a young lad I am transferring knowledge to, and in doing so I'm finding myself really stripping the junk out of martial arts. Even if I consider the Uke as a knifed attacker this move still doesn't make sense and would be potentially dangerous to Nage as blade would penetrate his abdomen in the hands of somebody skilled
@mysty07 жыл бұрын
Brian W you have a broken metronome! Uke throws first, Nage responds, there is a whole count missing here! Infact you are claiming Nage gets a whole beat and a half, minus the half for the disruption technique he still has a whole count somewhere in your book? Uke is in the perfect position for a spinning backhand/elbow to Nage's face with momentum on his side, if Nage is dedicated to this move he is going to wear the elbow to the side of his head and give up his back

Thank you sir for the clarification. So this kata isn't just a whole thing you can use in a fight, but a string of movements that teach a principal. The first part teaches proper punch defense, the second part teaches how to transition from the armbar to the shoulder lock. If I am understanding this correctly.

Many years in and many more experiences of real-world conflict, confrontation, violence, and combat... I DEEPLY APPRECIATE this. While many may speak of the likely ineffectiveness of the technique, i believe in the BREATH, the TECHNIQUE, the RHYTHM, and the FLOW of LiFE and with that combat. As one evolves and masters the BREATH, the TECHNIQUE, and the RHYTHM, we should arrive at a personal level of evolutionary FLOW. NO technique works in every situation. FLOW works in EVERY situation i have ever experienced. Most often, i am able to perceive the level of my attacker's proficiency and respond with appropriate violence. However, i confess, i have NEVER been randomly attacked by someone whose skillset and proficiency has exceeded my own. Operating in FLOW is what i consider as the Martial Artist's Creative. This series of moves fits squarely in the category of the "statute of liberty" play in an American football game. It is unorthodox, should never work, and most often does! So, maybe this creative series is one that fits into your FLOW... maybe not. I am grateful for this eternal journey of the student. Arigatou gozaimasu, for sharing!

Good evening sirs , so many times i saw your techniques about locks and strikes that i think are very good for sel defense ; i started Aikido so l'ing time ago but i got Just Orange belt , i never forgot about Ikyo and Nykio but the most that i learnt Is Aiki Jutsu . Now i do mostly grappling i got First degree of White belt in Gracie Jiu Jutsu but now i got also Blue belt about Brazilian Jiu Jitsu . My favorites tutorial are tours with also Grappling Academy in United States , Knife Jiu Jitsu and a Judo Sambo Ju Jutsu Academy in United States where i saw same techniques about Brazilian Jiu Jitsu we talk about arm bar they talk about juji gatame . We all came from the ancient Ju Jutsu like : Aikido , NinJutsu , Brazilian Jiu Jitsu , Judo. Very complimenti for your techniques dear sirs about NinJutsu martial art . I please you to excuse me for my english language very cheap relative yours . Thank you very much sirs

Thanks for this series! As a long time practitioner of Hap Ki Do I can see exactly where the techniques demonstrated here can complement my own in important ways. Yes, there are some pauses in this particular video, but the whole point of learning techniques is not to apply them mechanically but for the body to be able to adapt them spontaneously. What I particularly like in this series are the techniques for positioning the opponent for a throw using reflexes. The low kicks look very practicable. And I see Judokas use them a lot, although they are not actually allowed to punch or kick they can sweep and feign. Using Hap Ki Do wristlocks and elbow twists is almost impossible with a boxer or someone who has easy kicks. You need to get in close and then you are within range. So you need to have the moves for when you are either locked or grabbing onto something and that is when these techniques will be very effective.

In a full speed altercation, the throw may very well dislocate the shoulder on impact with the mat. The way the Headmaster stops is for 2 reasons. 1 being control, the other being for tutorial purposes. As for preventing the shoulderlock in this case, you can experiment with ways to stop forward moment. Maybe stopping the arm crank with a gable grip while dropping to one knee(the front moving leg), and when the momentum is slowed move into a fireman's carry. The Waki Gatame is the problem...
@joshuaworman982911 жыл бұрын
Hi I have a question. I have one major reservation with this move. The initial striking defense looked great. My issue is, after you parry the second punch, he just leaves his arm out there wait for you to spin around and scoop it up for your move. I am new to training in Bujinkan(not the same but related) but have experience with mma.(I did it for weight loss) I was always taught to retract my arm asap. How would that work if someone retracts there arm quickly?

Thank You. You are very good! You are! However, in the video, I don't think running would be the best course of action. In moments of troublesome or other, running draws too much attention, and they do see you and are aware, and are aware that you are getting away in plain sight. This can cause them to go after you, or create a panic. You run from a dog he or she will chase ya. My cat will stay still because she knows that running causes more harm then good. What if the attackers had a gun, and weren't afraid of using it. They'd get a clear shot. Only run when they aren't looking. I think walking away in a very causual way is most appropiate. Observing, but not letting them know that you are observing them, through peripheral vision. Remain still, walk away when they aren't noticing, and only run when they aren't seeing. It is always dangerous to run from a confrontation. Also, not to think what you are going to do. This usually fixes ones actions and narrows potential. Thinking too much can get someone killed. One must move naturally. There is no way to know what the moment can bring, and if one is thinking too much on this, that will be the opposite. You got to feel it out, and react. That is what I have come to learn. The rest though I loved, and it was very insightful and enlightening. Very useful. I like how you described the circle, and narrowing it down. Escaping the circle, because the circle is key aspect of awareness, and that is in their advantage, shifting to narrow and escape it, is a must. I like the position, and action that needs to be taken place. Your videos are very good. Do ya have any videos in regards to stick fighting bojutsu? I would like to brush up on new techniques.

It's a good technique would need to be drilled. In item words drill the movement so the issue of having a person over extend and wait as some have brought up is not necessity...This could be adapted to a wrestling 2 on on that can be obtained from shrugging a collar tie...So in other words look at it and adapt it to your style as it does have merit.

Ok so not only do these shoulder locks almost never work, training them is very dangerous. The risk of life long shoulder injury is massive. Now for the actual critique. Staying at maximum measure to set up a joint lock/ throw is the only way either of those work. However it requires significant physical surpremecy to pull off. In my life I've only done joint locks or throws to neutralize an aggressive party who was just posturing, catching them off guard. You'll never manage that however on someone whose already fallen for that trick. Occasionally shoulder locks have come in handy when someone was trying to fight me but had no chance whatsoever, still there are simpler ones that are much faster to pull off. There is a kongfu one involving a check quick step behind guard and headlock. Again will only work if your far superior to your opponent but is much faster than this one.
@AkbanOrg Жыл бұрын
Respectfully, I disagree with most of your insights. Shoulder armlocks work, or else they would not be banned from many contact sports. Nobody bans Chigong.

And then again: don't forget to redup the slow motion part with understandable speech. And then tell us: would the video have been 100 times easier to be filmed in "slow motion" in the first hand instead of editing it a week?
