Brett, such a clear and concise explanation of basic concepts; the public VIF and private VIF confused me, and the mystical VGW (private connection, to use with "private" VIF) vs. IGW (public connection on AWS backbone, to use with "public" VIF) component use, and the use-case of VGW with public VIF, all became clear. The Public VIF merely presents public IPs for addressing your (and others) VPCs as easily as addressing AWS Services via Direct Connect, but without using the public Internet for performance, reliability, scalability, and containing overall costs. Public or Private VIFs depends on the requirements and company and/or regulatory policy; both work well. Just awesome as I go back to read-up on this material from 2 years ago... terrific delivery and explanations, as others have noted below. This just rocks!

Nice work Brett! Love the way you keep things really simple even when trying to explain such esoteric concepts of networking.
