Dear Mr. G, Last Friday I found your channel and since then I have been non stop making tiles. The work your doing has completely blown me away. I don't have an artistic bone in my body but for some reason I've been able to recreate the 2.5 tiles to amazing effect! I power watched all of your videos and cant wait to start making doors for my new dungeon. I even signed up for a youtube account so I could subscribe to your channel to enter your contest, but now I've got to go back and click the like button for all your vids. Much Respect, Sterling

Hi, thanks for watching. The key is the simplicity. I try very hard to show techniques almost eveyone can do. There is tonnes of stuff still to come. There will be another 3 door varieties in the next couple of weeks. Check out the facebook page to see them. Enjoy

I've been saying it for years...polystyrene is a DM's best friend. Well done, mate. Tip: water down your base paint a bit. Saves on paint AND helps get into those more secluded nooks. 😀

I did, I just forgot to mention it.

This technique is what I've used for making 40k terrain for years. It works extremely well, super easy, and looks brilliant on any tabletop. Thanks for sharing this for the crafters! Cat commands to hit the subscribe button... one of us, one of us, one of us.....

Huzzah, really like the effect of that style of foam when it's painted like that. Mainly use the pink other foam and carve into it but I will have to try this out. Thank you good sir.

Probably the most cost efficient true 3d dungeon style out there. I have seen many of them and every time I say to myself I need to do that in the high density extruded foam and yet I still haven't done it! Some day Buddy Some day :)!!!!! By the way LOVE IT Bro:)!!!!!

Bounced to this video to see what you were doing out of curiosity. Polystyrene makes good sense for the walls. Bonus: if you mess up on a wall you now have material to make rubble! :)
@TheDMGinfo9 жыл бұрын
kereminde Exactly. I am starting to move away from polystyrene though, only because it is being outlawed in packaging in a lot of countries so it will be harder and harder to find laying around.
@kereminde9 жыл бұрын
Hmmm. So you moving to construction sand like DMScotty uses? Personally, a little white glue and sand can be used to make bricks if you're patient for it to dry. I did it once for a science project ages ago . . . I know "quick, cheap, and easy" is kind of a thing on these videos or I'd try to dig up how to do it and make a couple test cases.

Oh, and also...if you want to add some moldy dank vibe, you can brush on some craft glue and pepper it with pencil shavings. Once it dries give it a wet layer of your favourite watercolor green. Dollar store, bag of 20 pencils...mold/moss for days!
@TheDMGinfo10 жыл бұрын
Actually cotton wool would work well as mossy growth... new video idea.

Spray paint is a definite no no as you mentioned. But you dont have to stay with brush on method. An airbrush is available for use as well. It wont eat the polystyrene.
@TheRunesmythe10 жыл бұрын
If you want to use spray paint/primer and not have it eat the foam, you can coat all the foam surfaces with some white/pva glue. Some people like to water it down, but I just use it straight from the bottle. Coat it completely and allow the glue to dry, and it will seal the foam with a protective layer which will allow you to use spray paints/primers on it.
@TheDMGinfo10 жыл бұрын
Yes you can.

This is a great idea! I am going to stick with the original plan however as I'm too rough with my stuff and the cardboard walls are easier to make (and I've already made them). This is still brilliant though!
@TheDMGinfo10 жыл бұрын
You could use it for showcase areas. Also you could glue strips of card stock ontop of the walls to secure it further.

@TheDMGinfo10 жыл бұрын
ndsigns74 Put some cardstock down the back of the wall (make it out of polystyrene). You could also put some pins into it to hold it in place.

TheDMGinfo ok, got another annoying noob question.. In this video you use 1cm thick walls as opposed to the carboard walls which you make only 7mm thick. if you use thick walls, should you then make your basic squares larger instead of the standard 6.5cm squares you use on the basic tiles? i hope im making sense? lol
@TheDMGinfo9 жыл бұрын
They are thicker only because cutting the stuff any thinnerwould make it unstable and prone to breaking
@thomaswainscott468610 жыл бұрын
I have subscribed. I don't know how i feel about this method, do they hold up well or break easier? As always very nice looking and thank you for these videos :D
@TheDMGinfo10 жыл бұрын
Thomas Wainscott They hold up pretty well. I don't use this method for my own set though. I just use the standard method. People were asking me about alternatives so I made this video.
@thomaswainscott468610 жыл бұрын
Well thank you very much. Cardboard is much easier to obtain so i will probably stick with it. :D

I wonder if it would be faster to paint the foam before you glue it down to the base? maybe paint the entire foam board on both sides before you cut it to length? :/
@TheDMGinfo9 жыл бұрын
+alzathoth no, because when you pick stuff out of the wall you have to paint it again. There are no real rules though. I just try to do it the quickest way.
@ChronoBaw10 жыл бұрын
Kind of a silly question: should people start straight with this technique or make a few dozens of the full cardboard ones and then move on?
@TheDMGinfo10 жыл бұрын
ChronoBaw it is just an alternative. I personally only use the cardboard ones.
@ChronoBaw10 жыл бұрын
I really liked the finished product of floor+walls. I'm still coming around to start doing tiles (money is tight at the moment, even to buy a hot glue gun and paint) And stil deciding what kind of tiles i'll make. So far your method seems more like something i will be able to start with, specially the modular and reusable parts!

So hot glue damages the polystyrene? Oops! Just saw the other comments. I'm thinking that you could tape off the portion of the base that you will glue the wall to and spray paint the rest, in order to speed this up. The "more advanced" makes things even better.

really nice techniques,but why dont u add the wall size extra to the 3 tile field?! its 1 cm each side...the way you doing it u loose 2cm each direction which is nearly 1 inch, smallering the actual field down to 8×8...
@MrWilde7010 жыл бұрын
Why white glue and not hot glue? I'm just wondering if you tried hot glue and found a problem with it. This looks great, and the next time I find a piece of polywhatcha I'm going to give it a try.
@henrysmovieclub10 жыл бұрын
Hot glue would melt the expanded plastic foamy stuff...
@TheDMGinfo10 жыл бұрын
Hotglue does melt it as it reacts to most heat poorly. You can't use any aerosols with it either as the chemicals eat through it. However this does create great damage effects.

Wrong material, that's EPS (Expanded) not XPS (eXtruded) polystyrene... More fragile, to the point it falls apart unless you use mod-podge or PVA to coat it.
