Great video. There is one thing I think you forgot to cover, which is engine braking. When coming to a stop, you should really be down-shifting as well as braking, as it could be dangerous for you to clutch in and stay in 3rd or a higher gear until you stop. Picture this: you're coming to a stop at a traffic light while pushing the clutch in and leaving the gear in 3rd or 4th. You check your rear-view mirror and see the truck about to rear end you, so you try and move out of the way but stall the car because you were in too high of a gear. The example was a bit arbitrary, but you can see that when slowing down, you should be down-shifting right to 1st gear, or at the least 2nd, in case you need to quickly and suddenly move the car.
@AdvanceDrivingSchool4 жыл бұрын
We have covered that in other videos, but wanted to keep to the basics this time. Thanks for the comment 👍🏼

Hi I have been watching your videos since 4months as I started my 4 wheeler driving. Very professional content you guys are delivering. Thank you so much for your efforts. I Have a doubt here. Could you clarify. When the car is speeding about 60KM per hour i just wanted to slow down some speed may be 45-50 due to slight curve in this case 1. Apply clutch first nd then break to slowdown 2. Apply break first nd then clutch to slowdown 3. Apply break alone. 4. Apply Clutch alone to reduce the speed. Option 1 is currently I'm following. Please correct me if I'm practing wrong. 🤝
@AdvanceDrivingSchool4 жыл бұрын
Option 3 is best. Unless we need to change gear or stop, we shouldn’t push the clutch pedal down. This video explains why: How To Avoid Coasting | Learn to drive: Car control skills kzbin.info/www/bejne/i4WclGeHrL-XbcU 👍🏼

Advance Driving School I had 5 hours driving lessons so far. My instructor still asked me to master the holding point and moving point with the gas at 1.1 . I had to move very slow and pressed the clutch all the time to control the speed. He said I have to crawl first, then learn to work and run, just like babies. It is the foundation I have to build . Is it waste of time?

I'm from Southeast Asia. I think I ride manual motorbike for years since childhood. To me, the manual transmission car is easy as compared to manual motorbike. It's just slight difference that manual motorbike doesn't have clutch pedal. Edited: I said before there is no clutch on motorbike. Actuall, it has clutch when you press hard all the way down on the pedal of the right foot gear of the bike to disengage engine from the wheel. The wheel keep running as you hard-press the right foot gear and it keep on rolling af if without gears on while actually gears are on. So, clutch is rarely used as it could lurk/thrust bike forward when you stop hard-press the right foot pedal as speed is over 60km/h or in gear 4, and that it might cause the bike to crash as well. So, there is sameness model between manual car and manual motorbike.

When you changed to gear 2, you didn’t lift your foot of the clutch bite slowly like the first time, do you not have to do that past gear 1?
@AdvanceDrivingSchool3 жыл бұрын
Once the car is rolling we can engage the clutch in one smooth motion, as the speed of the engine is much closer to the speed of the wheels. You will notice that when changing up it is easy to get a smooth gear change, but changing down it isn't as easy - so lift the clutch a little more slowly.

How long do you have to hold down on the clutch for the biting point if you want to change up a gear
@AdvanceDrivingSchool4 жыл бұрын
When changing up a gear there is no need to pause at the bite point, as the speed of the engine already matches the speed of the gears. This means that the gear change will be smooth even if we lift the clutch up in one go.

I am a fairly new driver. I have a question regarding clutch control/gear change. Regarding downshifting, how to release the clutch up? I mean from 3rd -> 2nd. I learned that the clutch should be released until bite point quick after slowly till it is fully disengaged. Will it not wear the clutch more?
@AdvanceDrivingSchool4 жыл бұрын
The more gently we can engage the clutch after a gear change, the better - as it will wear the clutch less and feel smoother. Any sudden jerks we feel are because we have engaged the clutch roughly, and this creates more wear than easing the clutch up smoothly.

Even though I have got a driving licence in automatic transmission, I am so keen on learning a manual transmission car because many companies and employers demand drivers that can drive manual transmission cars. What's more, if you happen to go on holiday in some parts of the world, automatic transmission cars are nearly impossible to find. What a pity if you go on holiday you can't find an automatic transmission car while you want to visit places of interest by driving yourself. From my point of view, it is worthwhile to learn a manual car, so that you are never stuck anywhere any time.
