Advancing with Watercolor: Introduction to Tonal Values "Algarve, Portugal"

This is a video done as a supplement to a watercolor class taught by Gary Tucker in Boston. In this video I introduce tonal values and discuss their importance to the visual artist. I also introduce the technique of a graded wash which is a mainstay for the watercolor artist. We work on a depiction of the southern coast of Portugal along the Algarve.

Thanks for this lesson. I'm always grateful for tips on tonal values. Since summer is here and it's mostly green, I'm going to try to do a lot of monochrome. In spring and fall, I'm always too excited about getting the colors down that sometimes I don't pay enough attention to tone.

THANKS so much. So helpful. There are not many water-colour artists who do demos like you do and I am learning so much. I watch your videos and try after and then I apply to a new scene - so helpful with your generous lessons. I slowed down the video to 25% and found that you are so careful with each stroke. I have a question - at what speed are your videos made? -- just so I can understand the normal speed of how you do your strokes.
